Hospitality gone above and beyond in a little piece of paradise

This is our fourth resort in Maldives and I am happy to say the best experience we have ever had. It truly feels like you are on your own personal island and the whole team is working just for you. Safe to say that Raffles Maldives is a TRUE 5+ star experience and reaches heights of hospitality we have not experienced yet thanks to Liza (our legendary butler), Head Chef Gaetano Sgroi, Pastry Chef Ramlal, and countless other staff members who go above and over to make sure we had an amazing experience. We stayed on the sunset facing water villa with pool. The villa is extremely spacious and offers breath taking views from bedroom, living, bath, and basically all parts of the villa. The bed is HUGE and other amenities make you feel like royalty. In fact, one morning we saw a large group of dolphins (100+) swam across from our villa. They were not farther than 150 meters. We have never witnessed dolphins this close from water villa before. We have witnessed hour long sunset views that are uninterrupted and are simply breathtaking. This is something that was our priority one and that is why we chose to be in southern part of Maldives for isolation and serenity. The second biggest deciding factor for us was diving experience and marine life. Safe to say southern Maldives still has the best corals and charm and diversity. We were not disappointed at all. Amazing corals, diversity in fishes, sharks, are abound if you snorkel. If you scuba then amazing reefs are close by and you can see all of the above plus turtles and rays. Which we were fortune enough to see. Dive center and water sports were amazing. The food at raffles in all three of restaurants offers different cuisines for everyone. The ambience and helpfulness of staff takes it to next level. We were super fortunate to have Chefs create surprise personalized menu and treats on multiple of days. These small things make a lasting impact and they really try to make you truly feel special. From everyone remembering your preferences to your names to making things available before you even think is a huge plus too. Our experience at the spa was amazing as well. The views are amazing and the treatments even more. For me and my wife both we rate our massages and treatments here in top 3 we have ever gotten. The calm waters, breathtaking sunset, warmest hospitality, and own island feeling makes Raffles one of the best Maldivian experience money can buy. And last but not least we can’t thank Liza enough. She provided personalized experience like we haven’t experienced before. She did regular check ins to make sure we were doing amazing which means a lot. She provided amazing recommendations and was super helpful. For us, Liza is Raffles and Raffles is Liza. If you are worried about two different islands. Please don’t be. You wouldn’t notice it at all.

Third time with a little less magic

This is the third time we come to this island and beforehand I want to say that we enjoyed our time and will miss the nice view of the water villas. Unfortunately the service wasn’t as great as we had experienced it the two times before. The organization of our arrival was a disaster even though we had booked a sea plane in order to not wait in Male for too long. We ended up having a 6h wait anyway, during which we were shipped to a different resort for 45 min (yes, we had exactly 45min at the other resort, of which we only spent 20min in the room!) in order to “relax”. If you spend the extra money for a special seaplane flight, you do not expect a 6h delay. After finally arriving in our favorite villa, we had to notice that the villa looked much more worn than the last two times. Shower water was dripping from the sewage pipes right into the ocean (so much for sustainability!), the floors were scratched, the window of the shower had a big crack, AC was leaking, and so on and on…. BUT: the view from the villas is still truly amazing. The staff was nice, as they always are, but they didn’t pay much attention to detail. For example, it was my husbands birthday during our second week, and we had actually mentioned that in the booking. But this time (different to the times before) there was no “happy birthday” written on the bed, no little cake, no nothing. Yes, they are not obliged to do any of that, but we just felt like nobody “really cared” this time. Anyway, there were some people from the staff who were simply amazing, like Shen, the Thari restaurant manager, or Shaffa, the Yuzu restaurant manager. They really gave their all and if it hadn’t been for them, we might have left feeling a little disappointed. Anyway, it still a very nice resort, but this time the little extra that we were used from raffles was missing. Not sure if that was due to the high season, but it’s just a little less than we had become accustomed to from raffles.

We checked into the hotel on 1.30 and were discriminated against and treated unfairly. 1. The hotel arranged for us to stay in Pier 23 room. This room was super noisy, smelled of gasoline, and had poor privacy. However, no one will be accommodated in the pier room during the off-season, but it is continuously arranged for Chinese people to stay during the peak season, which involves unfair treatment. We asked the hotel staff, and they lied to us and said that the room was not too noisy. 2. The rule is to check out at 12 o'clock, but the hotel unilaterally asked us to check out at 10 o'clock and change rooms. 3. The hotel knew about our honeymoon, but deliberately refused to provide us with honeymoon rights.

This is the first time my wife and I have been to the Maldives and we have picked the Raffles for our honeymoon destination! We have done a lot of research prior and picked the Raffles for its spacious room and great snorkelling environment. We stayed at both the beach and over water villa and loved them both. It was extremely spacious and comfy. The staff from arrival to departure are all extremely friendly and helpful. We would like to make a special mention to our butler Koky who has personalised our stay experience to a next level! Koky assisted us with all our queries throughout the stay and helped us plan all our daily activities. The entire stay was faultless and we would love to be back at the Raffles Maldives
