We really enjoyed our stay at The Norfolk. Our rooms were spacious; the beds and bedding inviting and comfortable; every part of the hotel was clean and beautifully decorated; nice courtyard; good food; and best of all, we received excellent, friendly service from all staff members. We would like to give a special thanks to Michael Nzau who was our server for several meals. Michael provided excellent service with a special personal touch making every meal memorable.

My wife and I, along with another couple, had planned to stay two nights at the Norfolk at the beginning of our safari trip. The hotel was nice and the staff was very pleasant. In fact, we all noticed how kind and friendly they were. In the middle of night before we were scheduled to leave, my wife became very ill. The manager on duty, Lillian, encouraged me to take her to the ER. As you may image, I was somewhat hesitant to take my wife to a hospital in a foreign country, but Lillian summoned Edwin, a driver who had previously worked at the hospital, and the two of them persuaded me to take her to the hospital. Edwin drove us to the hospital and he somehow managed to get my wife into an exam room and be seen by a doctor within a few minutes of arrival. The doctor determined that she needed to be admitted and Edwin took care of getting my wife admitted in a nice room and settled in. He spent over six hours with us at the hospital that day to insure my wife received good care and that we were comfortable. The hotel assigned Edwin to me while my wife was in the hospital. Each time he came to the hospital, he visited with us to make sure everything was fine. Edwin made what most foreign travelers would consider a nightmare situation into a completely stress free and near pleasant experience. I was concerned about being able to extend our stay at the hotel as I knew the hotel was busy, but Lillian made sure that I could stay as long as I needed. Over the course of my extended stay, the staff frequently went out of their way to ask how my wife was doing, offer their prayers, and just talk with me; I quickly realized that the entire staff were some of the most sincere people that I’ve ever met. Each day I told my wife about my experiences with the staff. I don’t think she truly comprehended what I had told her until after she was discharged and we returned to the Norfolk. As we pulled up to the hotel, staff was lined up on both sides of the stairs all the way to the front entrance. As we exited the car, everyone spoke with my wife and welcomed her back. We are frequent travelers and have stayed at some of the nicest hotels in the world. We have never experienced anything remotely close to what we encountered at the Norfolk. How they treated us is not something you learn; it’s who they are as individuals and it comes from their hearts. We will always remember the staff at the Norfolk. I now consider many of them my extended family.

The Best Hospitality Experience I have had

All Hotel Staff were very hospitable, but the best were the two receptionists. They really went out of the way to ensure we had a very comfortable stay. An experience in Hospitality, I will always Cherish. The Food was also surprisingly good.

Disappointing Experience

I had a really negative experience at this restaurant. As the only Black person there, I felt completely profiled. While other white customers received attentive service, I was largely ignored. I was hungry and couldn't even get anyone to come to my table to take my order. The only positive was one gentleman who kindly helped me hang my jacket, but that was it. I expected better treatment and value for my money, not to feel like I was being treated differently because of my race. Overall, I left feeling disappointed and frustrated. I won't be returning.

This hotel is perfect if you want a high class hotel and peaceful environment in the middle of the city. I can recommend this place. The food is very good and breakfast especially. The hotel has a very nice large inner garden which is a great place to relax as well. Rooms are spacious and well equipped.
