Inconsistent with Fairmount gold floor experiences in other cities.

My husband and I are longtime, loyal guests of the Fairmont brand and typically book Gold Floor accommodations, as we value the lounge experience and enhanced room amenities. During our recent stay in Winnipeg, we found this property to be notably inconsistent with other Fairmont hotels we have experienced. To begin with the positives, the check-in process was efficient, and the staff were consistently warm, professional, and helpful throughout our stay. That said, our Gold Floor room and lounge experience did not align with the standards we have come to expect. Our room felt dated, with minimal décor, an empty minibar, no slippers provided, and an extremely small, well-worn bathroom. Additionally, our room was located on a floor shared with standard rooms, which made the Gold Floor experience feel indistinguishable from a regular room despite the premium cost. Given that our stay took place in December, we anticipated some seasonal ambiance. Instead, the hotel’s atmosphere appeared primarily geared toward families with children, including nightly live dinner theater in the restaurant, with limited holiday décor throughout the property. The Gold Floor lounge offerings were also quite limited, with a modest food selection and a reduced wine and cocktail offering compared to other Fairmont Gold lounges we have enjoyed across Canada and internationally, including Toronto, Vancouver, Quebec, and Shanghai. Overall, this hotel though very centrally located, looks and feels very outdated. While this experience will not deter us from continuing to stay at Fairmont properties in other cities, we’d be hard-pressed to return to the Fairmont Winnipeg in the future.

Loud and horrible

If you’re planning on staying at Fairmont Winnipeg be sure to scour the website and find that there’s going to be horrible construction noises that will wake you up early in the morning before you stay. That’s what I was told when I complained.

An Underwhelming Stay

This hotel does not live up to the Fairmont brand in any way. The rooms were very, very tired and one of the elevators wasn't working. The numbers above the elevators were blocked off - so you didn't know when was about to arrive and only the middle elevator had floor numbers visible. The coffee in the rooms was AWFUL, there weren't saucers with the cups, or teaspoons to stir the coffee or tea. The fridge in my rooom didn't work - and they had to bring another one. There is no small shop to buy snacks or incidentals in the hotel. There wasn't an outlet beside the bed for charging purposes. It was Grey Cup weekend, and yet room service closed down at 9:30 and the early coffee service in the lobby was only available for an hour. All in all, a big disappointment - and definitely not worthy of the 4 star rating.

Our room was terrible. The carpet was stained, furniture was chipped, and the mini bar snack shelf that was no longer in use was just turned upside down empty on the dresser. These deficiencies just didn’t happen overnight they would have been a long time coming. The worst part was that our room was directly below the 24 hour gym. We were woken up several times by loud banging. This particular room should never be rented out. The front desk attendant who checked us out never asked how our stay was (probably already knew what we would say) we brought it up ourselves. To leave off on a positive note, the doormen/bell staff were very friendly and helpful and the location was great.

The Fairmont Hotel is centrally located and quite comfortable. They are in the process of renovating the hotel. The carpeting in the hallway was new, but my room could benefit from the updating. The desk in the room was great for working, but there was only one outlet to plug in my laptop and the lamp was already plugged into that outlet. So in order to charge my laptop, I had to unplug the lamp and work in the dark! I did complain and maintenance brought up a power strip I was able to use. Service at the hotel was excellent. The staff were all helpful and called me by my name. The first morning, as I was walking to the elevator, the housekeeper saw me and asked me which room I was in. When I told him my room number, he knew my name without having to look it up. At breakfast, I was also called by name. You order off the menu and I was glad they were able to substitute a danish for the bacon/sausage since I do not eat pork.
