Failing at the basics

This is my third problematic stay at this property in a row, which I had to book through a 3rd party because their website was down. On arrival, we started with a 40+ minute wait in line for the valet. Next a 25 min wait at the check in due with only 1 or 2 staff checking in. Every guest I overheard was incensed long before they even got to the front of the line to speak to the front desk, but this was aggravated by the clearly inadequate training that the front desk staff had in problem-solving. The staff are all polite and attentive. However, the property is just not getting the basics right and a polite, elegant setting doesn't make up for it. There excellent nearby properties at this price point and it just doesn't make sense to endure the consistent disorganization.

Friendly and professional front desk staff (Julian and Xavier). I wanted to fill out the employee feedback slip but sorry got busy. Please consider this as a nomination for both of them. The room was spacious and comfortable. Overall, great experience.

I fell in love with our stay. It was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had!! The view of the Rideau Canal and Parliament was excellent! I would wholeheartedly recommend to my friends and family. The staff is also very welcoming!!!

Excellent hotel stay spoiled by a bad breakfast experience

Stayed for one night and was upgraded to a larger Deluxe room proactively. Bed was super comfortable, but it was the first Fairmont I have been to recently where Chromecast was not enabled. So technology maybe a little dated. Washroom was nicely renovated but small. Overall, a pleasant stay. Unfortunately the restaurant was a let down and there is no lobby bar as the hotel is under renovations. Dinner at Wilfreds was wonderful and I had great service for dinner, bit breakfast was a totally different story. Waited 10 minutes for coffee order, then it wasn't refilled without me asking and everyone else had a carafe on their tables, but I was not given one. The server also disappeared for a good 20 minutes while I waited to get my bill, and had to ask another server to get the bill for me. Breakfast service left a lot to be desired and fortunately I was not in any hurry.

Small room. ZERO fridge space for personal items; why? If we wanted to purchase select drinks we would order room service. Get rid of the non-complementary items. Obviously well located, and Café Laurier coffee was a great highlight. Beautiful architecture. Wilfred's restaurant bone marrow is a must try.
