A great building and interesting place to stay. We had rooms overlooking the canal and locks. The rooms are small and noise passes through the walls (we could clearly hear phone calls next door) but if you like history nowhere better to stay in the area. Food overpriced (as were bar drinks) but perhaps that’s expected? It clearly depends on conferences and events. Not the most cheerful check in experience and overcharged on check out (they refunded me quickly)

Suite was wonderful - yep I would recommend this place for any couple on their anniversary. WOW. Room service was swift, champagne was cool and bed was warm. Have fun

We were really looking forward to staying in this hotel but unfortunately it didn’t meet expectations. Check-in - and any time we needed to speak to reception - was a long wait. Reception staff were polite but not super friendly. Our room wasn’t ready even though it was after 4pm so we were allocated a twin room with no view and what looks to have been an adjoining room. As a mother and teenage daughter, I wasn’t super happy about that but propped luggage up against it. Bathroom was old with a tub and shower overhead - as others have said, water pressure is weak. Robe on the bathroom door had a threadbare hole in it and towels were stained. To top it all off we paid our 100 dollar a night security deposit and they then took a further unauthorised payment of 131 dollars which they put down to a ‘system error’. When I went to the front desk to speak to them about this, there were others in front of me also with billing issues. Not a five star hotel or a five star experience. A huge shame as the location of this hotel is amazing - close to National Gallery of Canada, Parliament and metro station. Shopping centre is also across the street. Would not stay again

We booked this for Canada Day 2025. It was a great stay. Checked in June 30th and was well received. They have valet parking and service was fantastic. We got check-in done through just before the big rush came in at 4pm. Was able to get a room with a view which was an option when booking. Room has the feel of the history of the building which was a great part of the experience. If you are travelling to see the Parliment buildings this is where you want to stay. Was a 3 min walk and you are on site. Was hot that week so it was nice to go do some stuff and then go back to your room to cool down. The salt water pool in the basement was great and nice relaxing place, they had a workout room which we didn't use. Restaurant and bars on site we didn't use either. Minor things, the TV has some of the channels are prerecorded and are not live, but you're not there to watch TV. The shower pressure was weak. The consierge was amazing and being able to scan my car and have the Valet having it ready, including charging my EV was great service.

Iconic but not a 5 star stay

This iconic property gets a 4 for being that. Great location for downtown Ottawa. Which we found very dirty and gritty in parts. Overall this is an old, outdated hotel. Like the other iconic Canadian Fairmont’s, you stay here for the history and the charm. Do not expect a 5 star stay. Check in was terrible. She told us nothing about the hotel or how to find our room. On check out we discovered the wi fi password was on the key card! We were upgraded to a large suite with an amazing view. Didn’t need the room but it was lovely. Except … the bathroom. Oh my. So so tiny. Toilet seat almost touched the door. No where to put toiletries. Small tub with shower curtain. There were no amenities - vanity kit, toothbrush etc as is common for Fairmonts. This is the issue with these old hotels. Hard to change that footprint … Enjoyed drinks in the bar. Nice atmosphere. Also had drinks on the terrace. Over priced as expected here. Apart from the room which was not! Breakfast buffet completely disappointing. Not up to Fairmont standards. Poor offerings and poor service as they were understaffed. Come visit and have a drink in the bar. Or stay by all means but be prepared for older rooms with outdated furnishings.
