Not a 5-star hotel -- disappointing

Ocena na stronie TripAdvisor 2.0/5

NOT a 5-star hotel experience. This hotel is well-located, directly across from Union Station. My room, however, was dreary -- interior facing, dated decor, no updated shower or bath. When I asked to change rooms, the front desk was unhelpful, suggesting essentiall the same room (with two double beds) but an exterior facing window at a significant upsell. There was no attention to detail and customer service that one would expect of a hotel listed at this class. Disappointing.

An Incredible Stay at an Amazing Property

We stayed 2 nights in a Gold Level room at the Royal York in celebration of my wife’s birthday. I had notified the hotel of the purpose of our stay and they couldn’t do enough for her. We were upgraded, received some treats in our room, and enjoyed an incredible experience in the Gold Level lounge. The staff, in their entirety, were exceptionally professional, friendly, helpful, and accommodating. They simply couldn’t do enough for us. This is an experience everyone should enjoy. Thank you all.

Conference, airports and Games

I’ve stayed at the Fairmont and visited the area for Raptors or baseball games/events. Also, folks taking the UPX train across the street, from Union Station to YYZ Pearson airport, can also opt for a free half-hour shuttle /wait at the stop (Piper & York Street facing the underground PATH), outside the Royal York Hotel for Toronto Island airport connections if flying Porter or domestic or Seaboard flights. There are numerous areas that make the Fairmont Royal York stand out: 1. Fairmont offers the best service and location, stretching between Bay and York streets by the financial district. You can watch hockey/basketball games a block downhill on Bay at Scotiabank Arena, or musical stage performances just kitty corner (Meridian/Sony Centre) as well as a few blocks North on York at the Arts theatre (Four Seasons) near the Hilton. Fairmont is clean and just across the street from GO transit and VIA trains, Union Subway station, and buses. UP Express connects at around $12 direct from Pearson International Airport, which is cheaper than Uber fare. You couldn’t find better. You’ll find it convenient travelling outside of the hotel. PATH corridor runs below the hotel at its Avenue level to Union, if passengers don’t want to cross at the intersection a few strides across streetcar tracks. The doors to the subway and Union trains are immediately to the right, beside Starbucks at the bottom of the East escalator from the Ticket Counter below Hotel Valet. Valet parking is also available on site. It will start at $60 overnight before tax, or generally $30-42 for any other period. They allow in-out privileges at no added charge and after check-out until about 9:45. 2. Rooms Rooms with TV and washrooms have been updated in this historic hotel. The cushion top mattresses and pillows are the best. The ceiling on entry will be lower than average, so very tall guests might ask for alternate rooms. Disabled or elderly guests may ask for a room closer to the Main or else East elevators, since the hotel/ hallway* practically extends a city block. Not all rooms might have exterior windows, but the quiet privacy rooms (halfway*) do. Climate-controlled Standard is tastefully furnished but tight, to walk around the Queen bed or navigate getting to the toilet/shower. For certain guests it’s a good idea to request an “upgrade” to roomier accessible rooms on the first floor above Mezzanine. The bedroom with two-Queens has a nice sitting room adjacent. You’d only be giving up the partial view of the Lake, better viewed from the eleventh floor and above. 3. Dining Clock Works lounge in front of Reception is fabulous, but the Library Bar beside the Imperial Room is more intimate—the place to be. Like afternoon/high tea (whenever the Queen finds refreshment here), reservations are best given in advance. Check for availability online. Reign tables and dining room was closed in the evening on arrival but reopened for breakfast—with a wait. A good menu offered in-room service. Meals cost around $28 (up to $45 for entrees). Salads and breakfast range around $18. The best way to get meals in the immediate vicinity is to cross the street. It isn’t possible for disabled people to attempt it in bad weather (in which case Stratus Restaurant could be open). Kelly’s Landing is an accessible Bar and Grill just kitty corner beside Union Stn. One crossing further is Jack Astor’s. To the East a bit further is buffet-style Marche Restaurant beside Hockey Hall of Fame by Yonge. 4. Meetings Fairmont hosts catered events and has spaces small and extremely large. Free or conference wifi can be accessed throughout the hotel. It’s an ideal conference setting and wedding site. 5. Amenities Shopping and services are connected to the hotel underground. Kalani Spa and salon as well as Marine Club are below Valet at the Avenue level. Don’t forget to book ahead if you want to reserve at the High/afternoon tea, downstairs inside the hotel. There’s performing arts and concerts all around; you’ll be near the hub and centre of the downtown core. Plus, the bed’s beckoning you for a good night’s rest. Then, you’ll be ready…by Bon Voyage!

Best value for money in Toronto, with exceptional rooms, and great service, along with historic vibes. The gold floor offers the best lounge l've seen at a fairmont, with attentive staff and easy check in/out. Rooms are clean, housekeeping is good and dining is strong. Location is prime across from union station, and I'd recommend this for any trip to Toronto.
