Great location. Very nice breakfast. Rooms are clean and have everything we needed. We walked to dining, shopping and the docks. Lo ation seemed safe. We had a view of the docks and historic buildings from our room and at breakfast. Staff was very helpful.

Worlds worst sleep

Absolutely the worst sleep ever due to the most awful sofa bed ,and that’s no exaggeration I had no sleep bad neck and back had to get up early as I couldn’t wait to get away from the bed ,it really does need burning I ask the staff to go sleep on it then they may understand I told the desk as I checked out his reply was I know the sofa beds Arnt great like no poop Sherlock when I paid nearly 250 for one nights sleep I want to enjoy it it’s a shame really as it was in a great place other than not equipping the room for 3 people and the awful bed it would of been a higher rating

Beware the booking scam

I have booked a room via what a believed was directly to the Hotel but turned out to be a third party (Booking.com) The rooms I booked clearly came to £216. I have been charged £345 plus a £10 booking rate. The hotel (nice guy) have confirmed the booking, however they will not help me. They insist I call the booking.com but none of their telephone numbers work. Perhaps the hotel cannot help me but I completed the booking fully believing I was in one to one contact with the hotel.... at the end of the day this is a total scam, a rip off and I can't do anything about it.

A poor overall stay. We booked this hotel thinking that it would be decent as it’s a Mercure. At check in we were told about a free welcome drink that was available and that more info could be found on the App. i checked the app multiple times during the stay but it never seemed to register that we had checked in so there was no info available about the welcome drink. We stayed for 2 nights and arrived at 3pm. As soon as we went into the room the bathroom extractor fan was on, we assumed that the cleaners must have recently finished cleaning and that it would soon turn off. It didn’t. The fan was also covered in a thick layer of dust, it clearly had not been cleaned for a number of months, maybe even longer. We reported the fan to reception on our way back out for the evening and were told that somebody would go up to clean it and they also told us the fans are on a timer and turn off at 9pm. We arrived back in the room at 10pm, the fan had not been cleaned and had not turned off, it did turn off at 10:10pm so good luck if you ever want to get an early night. We contacted reception again and they agreed to clean it the following day which they did. The app/website says there is a radio in the room. There was not. It also said the bathroom was accessible. We are not disabled but it clearly wasn’t accessible. The shower is over the bath and the bath side is quite high and difficult to get in and out of and I am 6ft tall. On the 2nd day, the toilet bowl was very warm which was really strange. The toilet roll holder was loose/on a downward angle so the toilet roll slipped off very easily. The wardrobe doors did not stay closed unless slammed so there were times they would loudly creak open on their own. The phone in the room did not work so when we had to contact reception we had to contact them via WhatsApp or in person. The kettle that was provided had a short power cable which did not reach any plug socket so we had to move the footstool from the chair close to a socket and place the kettle on it. The kettle also didn’t turn its self off once it had boiled so we had to watch it each time it was used. The hairdryer in the room did not work. On our second night, the people in the room next door arrived back at 10:30pm and had lots of people in the room making lots of noise. We reported this to reception via WhatsApp at around midnight and somebody come up straight away and told them to lower the noise. They did for a short period of time but they still continued to make noise and play the TV loudly until around 2am. Most of these issues should be things that are checked regularly and shouldn’t all occur in 1 room during 1 stay. Especially for a company like Mercure.
