We felt very good pampered at this extraordinary place - from the warm welcoming until the good bye team. The attentive staff fullfill every wish during your stay. For breakfast you enjoy traditional and international specialities in the lush garden. Dont‘t miss a relaxing traditional lao massage!

Amazing experience with one miss

The Sofitel Luang Prabang is an amazing hotel with personalized service made possible by having only 25 rooms. The staff at breakfast remembers you and your preferences and elevates the experience at every turn. The front desk doubles as the concierge and they are always at your service. Yai was impeccable. She always explained things clearly and helped us make decisions about what to do through the hotel (Kuang Si Waterfalls) and what to do on our own (Pak Si Cave). We also had an amazing Lao couples massage and the pool is wonderful for lounging or swimming laps. One note depending on what you’re looking for: the hotel has a lot of families, the kids were generally loud and often taking up a lot of space at the pool. The one downside of the hotel: while Yai was amazing, a colleague of hers at the front desk was less contentious. Whereas Yai laid out our options, confirmed the cost, and had us sign for our selection, we had a different experience with her colleague: we asked about going to the alms giving in the morning, mainly to ask exactly where to go and when — we were well accustomed to walking downtown from the hotel which is an easy walk and preferable to being driven. This colleague however assumed we would go with the hotel and told us to be ready at 5:15 AM. The hotel has a shuttle that goes downtown so we thought we’d be going with any other guests who opted in. When we got there in the morning, however, it was just us in the car — even though it turned out that at least two other groups from the hotel had gone. We were also surprised by the setup, where the sister hotel downtown had nice stools for us with plenty of sticky rice for the monks, water to pour on the bushes and an offering to place on the buddha at the temple afterward. We had received no context on what the activity would entail — including the cost of $30 per person (USD), which was not made known to us until we received our final bill at checkout. I think this was an honest oversight so I didn’t make a big deal of it, but it was quite frustrating. I will say that this same colleague allowed us a 4:30 PM checkout because our departing train wasn’t until 6 PM and that is both very uncommon and very much appreciated. All in all an amazing experience I would recommend. Too bad that we had this surprise fee without any context or sign off ahead of time.
