Hotel needs a refurb

This is a pretty tired hotel in need of an upgrade. Rooms are basic and seem to have been temporarily and continually patched up. Food was either a canteen level buffet or not that great a la carte. The hotel seems to cater for large numbers of tourists on coach tours rather than individuals. That being said there is nowhere else to stay other than a caravan park and you don't go to Kakadu for the accommodation and fine dining. The tours (they were not run by the hotel) were fine and interesting. Bottom line is that if you are staying at Kakadu this is the only hotel but don't expect too much.

The restaurant blew us away. Amazing!

I’ve seen really bad reviews of this hotel but want to correct the record. Yes, it’s a little dated but the rooms were very comfortable and clean and the staff were all very helpful and eager to please. Given how isolated it is in the beautiful Kakadu country, it’s comparative luxury. The pool and gardens in the centre were beautiful with lots of tables and chairs so pack some beverages and snacks and enjoy an evening sun-downer (or you can purchase these things from the restaurant). Speaking of the restaurant, we were blown away by the food. It was delicious and had trouble choosing between the al-a-carte or buffet every night (btw, the kangaroo was by far the best!!). The breakfast buffet was sumptuous which is exactly what you want ahead of a day full of beautiful walks. We are a family of 5 (3 grown kids) and one of us is coeliac and dairy free which was well catered for by the restaurant. If you’re not a camper, this is the place to stay!

This is what my room looked like for $400+ per night !

For $1300 for 3 nights this is what you get - see photos - This was a special birthday gift from my husband to stay here The carpet and bedding was clean The photos tell you the rest ,,,,

The whole hotel needs a refurbishment. Our bedroom and bathroom were tired and worn out. The bed was comfortable enough. The public areas need a general tidy up and a though clean. However our memories will be the lack of customer care by senior staff. When we arrived at reception 2 police officers were there talking the manager. The police were asking her to reinstate a member of staff who she had seemingly fired. The police were saying the ex staff member was innocent of wrongdoing. The manager refused. Why the manager thought it was acceptable for this conversation to be conducted at the front reception desk is beyond words. The young person who checked us in was clearly embarrassed by it. We ate in the restaurant both nights. The food was acceptable, although a bit pricy. In the restaurant we witnessed the same manager person bullying a young member of staff over and over again in clear view of customers. There is clearly something seriously wrong at this hotel. I have never commented on anything like this before, but it was awful to witness.
