SAILS - PICK OF THE BUNCH plus ACCOR DINING DISCOUNT

TripAdvisor rating 5.0/5

Dean W TripAdvisor review

Sails in the Desert is the nicest of the 4 hotels within the precinct IMO. I'd read numerous blogs which bagged the Resort but our ground floor room was excellent #135, next to a large grassy area with heaps of sun loungers and 50m from the pool. The free Experiences were great (Thanks Charles or is is Charlie??), and you can basically tick them all off within one day. The Sails lobby bar happy hour saved a couple of dollars per drink and the aircon was nice and cold. Your Accor membership gets you 50% off food only, but NOT at Geckos Cafe. This made eating at the restaurants very affordable. Ayers Rock Tour - take water, even October gets very hot. It's recommended to finish walks by 11am in the warmer months. WE DID TWO TOURS THROUGH VOYAGERS -"Sound of Silence dinner/Field of Dreams" combo including star gazing with an expert guide AND "Desert Awakenings" - an old guy with a walking stick made it up to the top of the dune, so this Tour suits most fitness levels. This second tour also included a level/flat walk around some of the Rock plus the Visitor Centre. Both Tours highly recommended.

REALLY NICE STAY

My Mum and I stayed here last year and had a really nice stay. The rooms are nice and clean and we found all of the staff that we interacted with very friendly. The buffet dinner and breakfast was amazing!!! everything was so delicious and such a good variety, probably one of the best buffets we have ever seen. The pool is nice but a little too cold, however I imagine it wouldn't be noticeable at all during the summer months. A little touch that I really liked was on one of the mornings, the hotel held an indigenous painting class. You were given a wooden animal to paint and a guide to the symbols in Aboriginal art and what they stand for which I found very interesting. PS The Mushroom Gnocchi is TO DIE FOR!!! I had a dish of it everyday

Ridiculously overpriced

What a disappointment this place was. We stayed for three nights and wish we’d just done two. This is supposedly a 5 star resort and at nearly $500 a night for a ‘Superior’ room our expectations were quite high. (I’m not sure what it’s ‘superior’ to as it’s the cheapest room available here!). Anyway, everyone arrives together on the free shuttle bus from the airport so the check in line is long - no welcome, no cold drink while we waited, nothing. Not a great start but then we got to the room which from the outside looked like a Butlins holiday camp - basically a step or two up from a campsite. Into the room we go to find a space which appears to have not been decorated for many years and carpets which just didn’t feel clean. There was a fridge….with nothing in…not even a couple of bottles of water…nothing. The bathroom door didn’t close, let alone lock. There were no bath towels. You get the picture. I’ve stayed in more expensive hotels and I’ve stayed in worse hotels but this is definitely the worst value for money hotel I’ve stayed in.

Dear SJB1966_12, Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay with us. We apologise for not meeting your expectations and for the issues you encountered, including the cleanliness and amenities in your room. Your comments about the check-in process and room conditions are concerning, and we will address these with our team to ensure improvements are made. We aim to provide a welcoming and comfortable experience, and it's clear we fell short during your visit. Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding our pricing. We understand that it may seem higher than expected, but prices in remote areas often reflect the increased logistical costs associated with transport and supply. We appreciate your insights. Best regards,

This was my second visit to this hotel. The last time I visited was 18 years ago with my family, this time was a visit to Uluru with my husband. Due to location there are limited hotel options but I had fond memories of this hotel from 18 years ago. Unfortunately I don’t think this hotel has kept up with the times. It was identical - it didn’t appear that anything had been upgraded or maintained since I last visited. I did think maybe touching up woodwork or replacing bathroom tiles that have discoloured over the years would be done, but it appeared not. The room itself is suitable for guests needs and has everything you would need for a short stay. We did take full advantage of the free laundrette- this was popular and very much welcomed by travellers! (2 washing machines and 2 tumble dryers with free washing powder!). We did book the buffet dinner which we would not recommend, it’s definitely not worth the money and there are other dinner options just a small walk away. Overall I would come back as it’s the best of the ones in a similar price range but it could be so much better!

Very shady business. Double charged my card and wouldn’t refund!

These guys are the worst scammers I've encountered. They double charged my credit card over a month after check-out and wouldn't refund me after confronting them. The funny thing is they claimed that I made a duplicate booking over the same dates and no-showed to one of them. Like for God's sake, how's that even possible?! Cuz I clearly showed up to the front desk at those dates and the check-in staff mentioned nothing about two rooms during our stay. Their billing system is a complete mess. We also got a prepaid tour that got cancelled due to weather and it took us over a month to get those money back after dozens of emails back and force. Now I'd have to start the dispute process with my credit card company to get my money back. We loved everything about Uluru besides this hotel. Who knows how much more shady business they have been doing over the years. Unfortunately you really don't get much choice here at Uluru. So be super careful and make sure to keep reviewing your credit charges for months after check-out. I'd even suggest you to close your credit card and get a new one after staying here.

Dear James, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I sincerely apologise for the issues you faced regarding the double charge on your card and the difficulties in obtaining your refund. This is certainly not the level of service we strive to provide, and I understand how frustrating this must be for you. I would like to investigate this matter further to ensure it is resolved promptly. Please reach out to us directly. We appreciate your feedback. We will review our processes to prevent such delays in the future. Thank you for your understanding, and we hope to have the opportunity to rectify this situation for you. Best regards,
