We were booked and given (without knowing it) a compact room which is terribly small, surely smaller than a nornal one. The size of the bed wad of course smaller than average, not to tell the bathroom. The receptionist girls did their best, but I would never recommend this hotel to any of my friends, nor would I come again. The only good thing about it was the position, extremely central. End of the story.

Was pretty happy with our stay there. The hotel is centrally located and much to see and do locally. Jo at the front desk was so very helpful on several occasions. She went out of her way and is exemplary of customer service. The noise downstairs was somewhat disruptive and I don’t imagine much can be done about it. Could still hear it with ear plugs. Lauren in the bar was entertaining and also made us laugh. The breakfast was very tasty and we liked forward to it each day.

Have stayed a few times, privileged rooms facing old high street a waste of time if you want rest and sleep, had asked for a previous room before arrival but apparently it was been used but was told on phone it was free, we did get a move to a Riverside room and was much better for a rest and sleep, rooms should be equipped with an iron and board especially privileged rooms without having to ask, and whoever designed the depth of the sinks must have been having a laugh, not easy to fill a kettle that doesn't fit, did improvise and used a cup a good few times, we really like staying at mercure but think the hotel can do little bit more on things having stayed in many hotels. The car parking is a bit expensive for guests staying that should be looked at for 3 nights bed and breakfast we were over 600 pounds, getting charged 36 pounds for parking is steep.
