Ripped wall paper Very run down common areas of hotel Cracked window in bedroom Pool area very dirty and not modern at all Two tester fire alarms within ten minutes of eachother had to evacuate twice I understand safety but twice is a bit much

Great hotel and central location. Restaurants, bars and shops all within walking distance. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. Only disappointment was the pool etc were closed and should have been informed beforehand.

Tired rundown hotel

I was working in a nearby town and looking for a reasonable priced hotel, saw the Mercure at a price just under £100/night and booked it. I have stayed in mercure hotels before in Germany and they are of a really good standard. Unfortunately this mercure hotel was nothing like those I have used in Germany. I also thought I would bring my swimming trunks and use the pool. First disappointment was the pool was closed, second disappointment was that breakfast was an additional £10/day, 3rd disappointment was that parking was charged extra. First night went for a walk to the sea front, came back, couldn’t get in my room, went back to reception for a new key card, that didn’t work, back to reception and the young man came with me armed with tools batteries and a programming device. He sorted the problem out. The whole building is tired and dirty. The room had new carpet but the walls were filthy. The bathroom was scruffy and the extractor fan didn’t work. It’s a noisy hotel, I could hear the other guests talking in their rooms and tramping up and down the corridors. One night a car with a loud exhaust was ripping around the derelict multi story car park behind the hotel. Aside from the dilapidated building the young staff were all polite and friendly and the only redeeming feature of this neglected mercure hotel.

What a dump

We arrived on Sunday afternoon, waited to be checked in at reception, and waited, and waited no one came, albeit we could hear a conversation going on behind the scenes. I had to call out before the receptionist stopped chatting to her colleague and came to attend to us, muttering something about using the computer. She told us the swimming pool was closed, gave us the key and pointed to the lift, not a good start. The “privilege” room? was anything but! It’s old, tired and needs renovation. We went out to meet up with family, the only reason we were there, and made the best of it. Went out early on Monday morning, hung the sign on the door asking for the room to be made up and thought no more about it, came back and the room wasn’t made up! Didn’t complain because it was late, went out early the next morning, again put the sign on asking for the room to be made up and again it wasn’t!! Complained to reception, only to be told that we should have been advised when we checked in that we had to ask for the room to be cleaned……what!!! I told her that wasn’t my fault and that I had hung the sign on the door both mornings! She said “I’ll get it done tomorrow “ bit freaking late, we’re checking out!!! So we were left with damp threadbare towels for 3 days, bin not emptied etc We could have gone to a b&b or Premier Inn for a fraction of the cost and had clean decent facilities! There are at least 2 signs in the room asking for a 10 review and if they’re not meeting your expectations, the reception team will do everything to resolve any issues, really? Only use here as a last resort and for one night maximum. Poor service, poor facilities and poor hygiene, do they know there’s a pandemic? Lots of b&b, guesthouses and other hotels, avoid this one at all costs, a costly dump!

I have spoken with the reception team as when you arrive at the hotel the full explanation of how the hotel is working at the minute due to covid has been missed, that rooms are only cleaned on request from reception as is the same for fresh towels or any other amenities that are required. Der Parkplatz hinter dem Haus und die Aussicht aus einem der Executive Zimmer ist gut. Aber sonst... Die Unterkunft ist alt und obwohl ich in einem renovierten Executive Zimmer war, ist es noch immer alt und auch düster. Gute Ansätze bei der neuen Einrichtung, aber wieso hat man zum Beispiel wieder einen flauschigen Teppich eingelegt und dunkle Farben für die Wände gewählt? Das Bad, auch im Executive Zimmer, ist eine Zumutung. Überall Warnhinweise und in der Badewanne zu stehen und zu duschen, ist wirklich gefährlich. Nun werden gerade weitere Zimmer renoviert und das bringt in diesem ringhörigen Hotel natürlich zusätzlich Gründe nicht dort hin zu gehen. Im Restaurant hat es Personal, welches freundlich ist und angezogen wie in einem richtigen Restaurant. Aber alles auf der Speisekarte ist Conveniencefood. Das ist nicht wirklich hochstehende Küche. Die Preise sind einigermassen moderat.
