Two weeks on and I am still waiting for the manager to contact me to discuss my concerns as I was assured by the receptionist, but to no avail so here goes.. I originally booked to stay at the hotel over new year months ago. I assumed there would be entertainment on. Imagine my surprise when I got there to learn that there was but it was £99 a head and all booked up. Why weren't guests staying there who had booked way in advance notified of this event and given first choice. As I wasn't well enough to go out into town I stayed in my room on my own. I asked a few times if I could perhaps join the event after 10pm after the meal but was told no as it was a private event. Pretty poor since I had booked to celebrate the new year there. Three times I had to go back downstairs as my electronic key fob did not work, to get it re-activated and it had been nowhere near my phone I was advised that can make them go faulty sometimes. This was awkward as although there was a lift I was right round the other end of the hotel so it was as much hassle just to take the stairs as walk all the way round. I have mobility issues so this was a real hassle, as the phone also did not work in the room. It also rang twice on another occasion but when I picked it up whoever was on the other end could not hear me. So when I wanted to ring downstairs I had to contact the national number from my mobile, and ask to be put through to the main desk, only top be waiting ages so gave up in the end and had to make the trek downstairs to reception to queue behind other guests checking in. I also wonder if the room had been cleaned properly as there was paper on the floor and a leaf on top of the radiator when I arrived I stayed three nights. The first morning my room wasn't cleaned one of the days then the next day it was quarter to 4 in the afternoon when they finally came round as it should have been ready. Twice I had to go down the second day just to make sure I had not been missed again, as it was so late. It should have been ready for at least 3pm. One of the cleaners told me that they had halved the number of staff, despite there being the same number of guests in an attempt to save money as they had to pay them time and a half, but the new owners were too penny pinching. A reasonable request for New Years day me thinks to pay staff a decent wage. As another guests noted the rooms were ok but looked tired. Please see attached photos. The view from the back was uninspiring, dirty with all leaves and debris built up.. The handwash in the bathroom was cheap and I got a terrible rash from it. I complained to various different people at various times, including managers but to no avail. All in all it was a lonely and miserable experience being shut away on the top floor, I hardly slept through being ill and being awoken with a start in the middle of the night by a someone having an argument and slamming doors. I would appreciate a proper and fully considered response with a reasonable reply. There is also the matter of me phoning up several times and trying to upgrade my room as I was unable to do it through Booking.com. It said contact the venue. After several attempts, no one got back to me to resolve the issue. On one occasion I was asked to call back as they were too busy, not 'I will take your contact details and get someone to call you'. Very poor customer service and communication is an issue as the staff and those manning the phones do not speak English very well

NYE party night

We went to the NYE party night with another couple and what a great night and so well organised. Started at 7pm with a glass of fizz and canapés being served. Then into the party room which was decorated and well laid out. Had the most lovely 3 course meal. I could have gone with any of the options but chose the goats cheese and caramelised onion tart followed by sea bass and finished with a banoffee dessert whilst my husband had the terrine, fillet steak and cheesecake. The food was really lovely and good portions. I was really impressed and couldn’t fault it. Another glass of fizz at midnight and a really good DJ played some music that kept us all on the dance floor all night. Had a good deal on a room to stay overnight with breakfast included so seemed silly to try and battle our way home. Glad we stayed as was the perfect end to the perfect evening. Thank you to the lovely Beth who had organised the whole event and should be congratulated as did an amazing job. I am sure we will be back next year, my husband is already mentioning it and from someone who is usually in bed by 10.30 on NYE that says a lot!!

Top tip- the entrance is right after a roundabout, so it pays to be mindful of speed on approach Charlie in the bar is a delightful barman- friendly and makes great food recommendations I was greeted on arrival by Yug, who was informative and helpful Rooms are clean- some of the furniture has seen better days, but it was immaculate. Bed was comfy, slightly squeaky floor in the hallway outside.

The hotel was ideally placed, very quiet and comfortable. They served an excellent 3 course dinner for £26 pp, the buffet breakfast was superb but above all the staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful and accommodating

Great location, miserable day staff

Recently stayed here and its a great location just outside the centre. But to start with the negatives, we checked in ,in the evening and had to pay extra for the dog which we knew but on checking the receipt we were charge £20 instead of £15, the young girl was very polite and said she would leave a note for the day staff to sort out which was fine. But on checking out we raised the matter with the receptionist and it was like a scene from "computer says no sketch " She said the prices had gone up and that was right, I showed her the email confirmation and after a frown said 'give me you card' and she put the money back on, no apology, smile nothing. It was only £5 which is nothing but it spoilt the whole experience and i think it was coming straight out of her wages. On checking other reviews people have had problems with her before. Maybe some training needed here. As for the dog charge you get nothing for it, I know they say for extra cleaning, but it should be cleaned anyway, other hotels charge £10 and you get dog beds, treats etc. Apart from that the hotel is well set out will plenty of facilities in the room and free parking but if you take a dog there are better alternatives
