Resort is in dire need of renovation/maintenance. Lifts, rooms, bathrooms, balconies all dirty and substandard condition. Reception informed me that the site became a hotel in 1989. It is clear nothing has been renovated since. Very disappointed.

Disappointing Fairmont experience

We have stayed in many Fairmont properties around the world and have always expected a high level of quality from them. Sadly, this property was anything but. The decor was tired and old, the staff well the ones you could find couldn't be bothered helping. The bar staff couldn't figure out what was a beer or a cider. The meal in the the ONLY restaurant that was open took 1.5 hrs. to come and then they put the wrong tables bill onto our room account. The hotel shop and whiskey bar were all closed and only open on the weekends. If you also staying here to be able to see the Blue Mountains from your room, best you ask before arriving as there are only a very small number of rooms that actually have a view. For the cost per night, I would save your money and go anywhere but here.

We went there as a family and booked the Sublime suite. For the price we paid, I was expecting more. The room was big but, not as clean as it could be. The balconies were filthy with calcium built up and stains on all the windows. The carpets in the room looked dirty and the room itself was very dusty. The bathrooms were ok but needed more cleaning. The mini bar was non existent, unless you count the sad little bottle of milk. The first night we went down for dinner at around 7:30pm to discover only the only food available was bar food - about 6 food items on the menu. The italian place was closed and the Embers was fully booked. As a family we ordered what we could off the bar menu and the quality was average. Having stayed in a lot hotels around the world, this was certainly a first to not be able to order 'normal' food at 7:30pm, in a high end hotel. After this experience, we decided to go have dinner out for the rest of our stay. Katoomba has lots of great options. The pool areas could seriously do with a coat of paint, some mopping,and a good old general clean and tidy up. I swam in the indoor pool and unfortunately the local pool of my suburb felt cleaner than this pool. The outside pool is dated, and again in need of some maintenance. The garden area was beautiful but could do with some TLC. Weeds everywhere, unswept surfaces, broken chess pieces tied with zip ties etc etc Overall, the hotel has great bones and great potential. Unfortunately it seems like the Accor group is relying more on the reputation the Fairmount once had and make money off that reputation, rather than spending money to maintain the reputation. Its such a shame that such a beautiful place is being left up rot.

Although staff were very friendly, attentive and helpful, the room was average and not what you'd expect from a "resort". Soundproofing was the main problem. We were able to hear every word spoken from the room next door and people in the corridor outside the room. There were a lot of hyperactive children with irresponsible parents. The view from the window was of one bush and a wall. We were told the EV charger would be working but it was out of order and Exploren said they had reported it to the two months prior. They were waiting for the resort to get it back online. The bar fridge contained one tiny long life milk and nothing else. No snack or drink options to purchase, no cold glasses, just that lonely, little milk. On the positive side, the bed and pillows were very comfortable.
