Unfortunately ours wasn't a very 4* stay we had a privilege cathedral view room. Not one off the best Mercure rooms we have stayed in bathroom very small and would have expected a rain shower at least . Our T V didn't work reported this on our first day finally came to look on second day we got a call to say we could change rooms but wouldn't get the same as we had so we were not going to move to a smaller room .so we're left with no tv . The staff. I'm sorry to stay really didn't seem bothered . Breakfast on the first day even though we came down early was very limited things had not been replenished even though breakfast went on until 10 am we asked for the items. But we're told very dismissively no more we weren't the only people to do this next morning things were constantly being replenished complaining does help !. On the Sunday we went out got back after 2.30 went to our room which was only just being cleaned ended up going down to the bar area. asked at reception if we could buy a drink No bar service even for a coffee. Really 4* hotel no resident bar service reception could no care less... But funny thing our room was finally ready at 3.15 so went up. My husband went to get something from our car. And would you believe people sitting in the bar area drinking and eating snacks questioned this was met with a shrug hotel was definitely not worth the €790

Not up to 4 star standard

Also want to echo other reviews in that we felt breakfast should be avoided. There was little seating or food available, and what was there was not very good. If you book via Booking.com and on breakfast included rate, it cannot be removed and you’ll be charged whether you eat there or not. As for the hotel in general, we’ve stayed in two other Mercure hotels on this trip, and both have been to a much higher standard. There is a funny smell, and the rooms and communal areas are looking a bit tired. We didn’t feel this was a 4 star hotel. We travelled with a baby, and were given a cot without a mattress, making for an uncomfortable sleeping situation for our 10 week old, who had to sleep on lots of towels. I was told upon asking that it’s illegal to supply mattresses with cots in France, though the other hotels we’d stayed at had provided them. Perhaps this is the case, though I don’t see sense in suppling a cot at all if you don’t supply a mattress, and it would be helpful to note this on their website. On the plus side: the location is brilliant, parking conveniently close, and beds comfortable.

Not of a Mercure standard at all.

Hotel foyer smelled like blocked drains and one room we booked smelt so badly of blocked drains that we were moved to a new room. Air conditioning not present in common areas, and very poor in the room. Dinner, the mains were exceptional, but spoilt by the waiter Haydren who seated us at a two person table right next to the only other two groups in the entire restaurant. We chose to move to a table by the window with 4 seats, and when he returned to find the two of us sitting at a 4 person table, he appeared so cross and said “is for 4!” and then noisily started clearing the spare glasses and cutlery off the table and throwing them back in the main cutlery drawers! He then took another ten minutes before taking our drinks order and was clearly still very upset! Very good location right next to cathedral. Street parking (paid) can be found round the back of the hotel as hotel parking only up to 1.8m.

Declined to the point of unacceptability

We have stayed here many times, mainly because it is bang opposite our favourite restaurant between the channel and Paris (Les Orfevres) and it makes a convenient stop to and from our home in the south. It has never been a joyous experience, and it is both more expensive and less generous than some other hotels in the group which we often use. However, usually, it has been fine for an overnight convenience. This time it really fell short of what’s acceptable. For the second time running, the air-conditioning in the room that we were allocated didn’t work. On the previous occasion, we realised in time to change rooms, but this time it was too late to do so without huge upheaval and in fact it mattered more because it was a warmer night. Result: a very poor night’s sleep. But what it shows is that although the whole hotel is supposed to have AC, the maintenance is so bad that it’s actually a complete lottery as to whether you get it or not. Also whatever the ambient weather, it’s only ever been switched on in the core summer months. The other major issue was the breakfast. We arrived at about 7.30 to find almost every unoccupied table covered with dirty plates and the dishes of scrambled eggs and bacon already almost empty. They remained unreplenished when we finished more than half an hour later. Not that they were very attractive anyway. The bacon was undercooked and sitting in a pool of oily water and the eggs were pale, grey and unappetisingly watery. The coffee (only one machine to serve the whole hotel) was coarse and bitter and there was only one croissant on the buffet. In France! The staff seemed more interested in demanding room numbers than ensuring that there was actually some breakfast to eat!! This Mercure also offers the worst gluten-free options of any hotel in the group: just some dispiriting tasteless little white rolls cooked from frozen. They are just about edible when hot from the oven but, if you make the mistake of ordering them in advance, they arrive cold and are absolutely dire! On this occasion I brought a couple of slices of own home-made bread and toasted it. It was the highlight of a disappointing stay! There’s another sense in which they fall short of other Accor Group properties. Regular customers with sufficient accumulated loyalty get a free welcome drink, often a very nice wine or even champagne in Reims. Here it’s the cheapest plonk on their list and frankly undrinkable. Moreover, although the rule is strictly one drink for the cardholder, not for his companion, most hotels offer two drinks. Here it’s meanly one, even for customers who have stayed in this very hotel a good dozen times in a year. We’ve noticed a steady decline in maintenance over the recent past and maybe this isn’t unconnected with the fact that the hotel manager considers it appropriate to chain his own massive motorbike in the doorway.
