Surprisingly ideal family hotel near the airport

We were looking for a hotel near the airport as our flight landed late. Novotel was one of the few rare hotels with airport shuttle service. The rooms were big and comfortable, directly facing the airport so we could enjoy a first class plane viewing experience. Breakfast was amazing! There were 3 pools: hot, children heated and usual. The kids had so much fun in the pool. And the hotel has a self service laundromat!!! Down sides: unfortunately there was a renovation going on, so the lobby was reduced and the bakery cornered. The kids play area was also closed, to the extreme disappointment of the kids. But it was made up by the excellent service and other amenities. Bigger bad news: heard that Novotel will be closing down next year :( No more chance to relive the fun experience.

What I liked: * Spacious room * Clean * Close the airport with free shuttles * There is a subway station right outside of the hotel which can take you to Taipei City or Taoyuan High Speed Rail Station. What I disliked: * The room design/layout did not feel smooth, felt wasteful in space with redundancy though others can feel differently about it * The shower temperature was only warm, not hot * The breakfast buffet was not as stellar given its hotel size and traffic. They closed out some sections, and some foods did not seem fresh. A typical Novotel, western style, suited for travelers that need to catch an early flight or late arrival for a night before heading elsewhere, for convenience. This is the closest full scale/full size hotel at Taoyuan Airport. It literally resides inside the airport premise. There is another pod-like hostel inside Taoyuan Airport on the top floor of Terminal 2, but you must share bathrooms.

Very convenient next to the hotel metro station from the airport, or catch the hotel shuttle bus every 30 minutes. Use your credit card metro fare (not on every gate - look for the contactless card readers). Rooms spotless and nice. Larger main restaurant has great buffet for dinner and breakfast. Dinner extra and a little pricey. Location not really for tourists but with the metro next door and a 30 minute ride to Taipei it works well. Reception not helpful, had to insist on the free member late checkout on a Sunday - not good enough that I had to argue. Later I extended my stay and the same difficult young lady at reception charged me extra full rates - I discovered a significant member discount rate on the Accor website so had to visit reception again to get this rate. Why?? Not good enough Novatel. Stop treating members so poorly. Rest of staff friendly and a good spot for layover short or longer.

We had a 24 hour layover in Taipei. The hotel is an excellent option in such case. After a good night sleep, you can leave your luggage and come back short before your flight. Few minutes from the main terminal (on MTR). Great connection to downtown. Clean, efficient. Friendly service. Spacious rooms. Good breakfast.

Excellent in many ways but a few disappointments.

Stunning Hotel. Great on site restaurant and bar. Beautiful room with mind-blowing runway views, but the hardest most uncomfortable bed I have ever attempted to sleep in. Utterly professional staff throughout meaning hassle free service. The room was incredibly clean, smart looking, beautifully furninshed with an outstanding bathroom which included a digitel bidet toilet seat on the lavatory. Panoramic views across the airport, its taxiways and runways, fantastic sound proofing. All this - but I couldn't slep as the bed was too hard. I had dinner from the bar menu and it was delicious, well presented, delivered quickly and relatively inepensive. The included breakfast was outstanding with with Wester, American, European and Asian options in plentiful supply. The restaurant also operated as a Korean Buffet in the evenings which looked to be outstanding and varied. The hotel shuttle was dependable, but locating its airport pickup point was not particularly easy as the hotel's written instructions were not supported by adequate signage within the airport. In short, there are 3 possible places at the airport which match the hotel's description of the pick up point. For anyone about to use the hotel's shuttle, put simply: Come out of the customs hall into the arrivals hall and turn left. When you get to the end of the arrivals hall turn left down a corridor with signage to the train station and transfers to the other terminal. Part way down this corridor you will see a sign pointing right indicating the departure point for Hotel shuttles. Follow this through a doorway to outside and the relative stop is on the other side of the road. As I said, a whole range of pluses here, but the bed was just very uncomfortable for me and I hardly slept.
