Time to say Goodbye to Guangzhou Sunrich Sofitel

Time to say good bye to Guangzhou Sunrich Sofitel. I used to stayed here for past many years (maybe 10). It was good by Mr. William Chea management team. The building is old but the service was above average. Except this time! I checked in the club lounge by Platinum membership, I could tell the staff were all freshmen! The lady did not know how to make check in, need to ask her colleague to help. Both ladies seemed not understand my mandarin. Hard to communicate. They first put me in a very dark room, very dark specially for toilet. I walk up 3 times then change to a new room but very weak wifi signal. The lounge service was shrink! I call service desk to ask a luggage frame but no one show in following 3 hours. They even lock the frige even I deposit 4000! I asked for unlock, the lady replied " the content is charged!" This is really insult for a platinum member with RMB 4000 deposit! I dont know what is going on for this hotel I was 5 star but I felt it is 2.5 star now. I call service desk 11pm for 10 min get answered! This Sofitel now is totally unqualified for Accor. I should send the info to Accor! I came for many years, I understood the hardware maybe aged. This time the staff, the service made me feel very bad! I think this is the last time I stay here. Good bye, Sunrich Sofitel, not bright any more.

Basically a Police Station

After 10 you will get hassled by the elevator to make sure you and or guests are registered. This is a 5 star hotel and they should go light on this. Most of the real nice properties in this city Park Hyatt, Ritz, don't hassle you about this. They have essentially a guard waiting to make sure you are registered. Then they have a weird photo process to make sure everyone is registered. Not good. There were like 3 of us waiting in line taking photos at night because they all had guests. Room is nice. Shower water pressure is great! At checkin, my room included the lounge which they did not honor. Finally a manager did honor it. Manager was super friendly but this was an issue with the booking company as it showed the lounge was included. Lounge: Food is really bad. Really bad. Don't recommend. Lounge was not cozy or comfortable. Second visit here. Would not come back.

As a platinum member, there should be welcome gift but they only deliver to me at night upon my call. Also, I believe they just send a normal only instead of platinum member because it is much different from what I saw online. Wide variety of breakfast, service is ok for restaurant. Front desk service is not good, i belief I haven't own her many money. Also, this hotel did requested for deposit which is quite a lot.

Big hotel, Mostly friendly staff but do have some inconsiderate staff on occasions. Arrived 4pm and one room is not ready, as told to me was already cleaned but needed half an hour more to inspect. ( 45sq meters room needed that much time to inspect?) The room conditions were quite battled and old and chair leather was torn. Faucet always short and leaky when on and shower head always drooped. A tightening to the holder will do the trick. No red wine or welcome fruits for Accor members since they started rules changed from this month. Promised welcome drink vouchers when checking in but have to beg for it in the evening at the counter. Executive lounge cannot provide another complimentary guest even though I booked 2 rooms with platinum membership. Asked to pay 328 RMB for the additional guest. A big change since this month, the executive lounge do not offer any more menu choices, while Sofitel Foshan used to not have it but they now do have menu choices in the executive lounge! 328 RMB for some finger snacks food and drinks is not a good idea. Beer bottles were also kept away somewhere and has to asked for top up in a basin. There is clearly a fridge beside, but only for soft drinks. I stayed many Accor group properties including Sofitel Foshan, Sofitel Kunming, Pullman Lijiang, Thailand Pullman, Mgallery, Novotel, Mercure and Vietnam Mgallery Pullman and Novotel. They usually accorded complimentary visit to executive lounges for guests booked under my account. In guangzhou, home of Cantonese food, like dim sim, wanton noodles, however they are missing in their buffet breakfast, there is not a single drop of pork siew mai nor pork wanton in their steam and noodle sections ever since my stays in the last 4 trips, It is just a typical 4 -star hotel food spread. The housekeeping didn’t add another bath towel on 2nd day, perhaps had forgotten but hey, this is a 5-star hotel. A very busy hotel, perhaps cost cutting measures or what, need more improvements. I will look for other hotels in Guangzhou in the next visit.
