A Pleasant Surprise

Went there for a reunion and the rooms are old but quite large and very quiet. These were surprisingly good better than I expected from the Mercure chain. They were cleaned well but other parts of the motel were not. The lift was filthy and not cleaned for some time. The internal gardens were stunning and a real feature. The bar area was average and the food ok, nothing really special but good for a Mercure. Probably more staff needed when so many people attending. One or two of the staff at reception us difficulty do the most basic tasks and young lady was rude because of the three times they made errors with our bookings. More training needed in reception. Overall a pleasant surprise and I would recommend it or stay there again.

After unpacking & going out for dinner, came back to discover aircon didn't work-room was 28'. Was moved to an "upgraded" 2-story room-no it wasn't. Was awoken at 2 am to the sound of the front door being opened & the overhead lights turned on. Before we could say anything, they left. Woken again at 6 am to a fire alarm & had to exit the building. False alarm-Not their fault but just another thing.

A quirky hotel of some historical interest. Other than this little to recommend it. First room abandoned with faulty air conditioner. Replacement accommodation dark and dingy. Reception staff unforthcoming and bistro uninspiring. Had to exit hotel twice during the last night due to faulty fire alarm. I would not recommend this hotel.

Great place to stay, just not to eat!

Wonderful historic building in a peaceful spot. Great hospitality by all staff at the Motel/Hotel itself, and very accommodating helpful people all around! I appreciate that all very much. Nice big room (I had a loft). My one complaint was the food there in Olims just not being very good. Breakfast of scrambled eggs were wet sloppy and tasted watered down and tasteless. I love my eggs, so this was a disappointment. I tried them 3 times and found the same each time. I also had dinner there just the once and was disappointed and felt pricing was steep for such bland food (I had the beef brisket sandwich which was dry and in need of a sauce and flavour.) Great place to stay, just not to eat!

There were two busloads of us. pulled up in the front. We couldn't get out as there was no easy access for elderly or people with wheely walkers. Carer had to go into the foyer get our keys and then we had to drive around the back to access through the car park. That was locked so had to use one of the keys to unlock the gate. Rooms furnished with very old fashion cupboards. Huge TV on wall but no instructions how to use it. Remote control very basic with very few buttons. Lovely glass tables, a chair, a huge very comfortable king size bed. Beautiful new and spotlessly clean bathroom with long vanity, toilet and shower but no safety handrail or shower stool, very slippery for the elderly. Old world charm hotel but needs to be brightened up. The bistro where we had breakfast was a disgrace for the size of the hotel. We had to wait an hour before we could get in and find a table, it was the quick and dead. The breakfast food was very good but the lids on the containers were broken and half falling off. It was like a cheap cafeteria. The staff were lovely and there was a beautiful courtyard garden to sit in.
