Grand Mercure Puka Park Resort 4성

This was our first time in NZ, and this place did not disappoint. We arrived in the dark and could not experience the lush beauty until morning. We were assigned room 26, not truly understanding the question - does anyone in your party have mobility issues? After four days, our sixth decade bodies were able to walk up and down the hill without stopping. Positives: the staff was amazingly friendly, courteous, and helpful; there was always someone available to pick us up or drive us back (one of the waiters took us to our room when the front desk staff was unavailable); the tennis court and pool were easily accessible Negatives: driving can be a nail-biter if you aren't familiar with driving through the mountains - we are from flatlands in TX; the tennis rackets need to be replaced or restrung. Overall, we loved Coromandel Peninsula and all of the accessiblle natural beauty within a day's trip.

Great stay here for two nights in a tree hut room which was very clean, quiet and comfortable. Yes it is hilly and there are steps to/from the rooms but we knew that before we arrived and if needed the reception staff were always available to give you a lift in a golf buggy. Breakfast was very good and things such as poached eggs available on request. Resort is a short walk (or drive) to a lovely beach and a small town with a couple of places to eat and a supermarket if needed. Staff were very friendly and helpful and if you visit hot water beach then don't forget to borrow a spade from reception

An excellent hotel setback in the hillside overlooking Pauanuin, we booked a Tawa Treehut room, which suited us perfectly, nestled in the woodland. The room was large and well appointed with a nice walk-in shower. The staff were really helpful and took our luggage on a buggie to our room after we checked in. Unfortunately the weather was very poor during our stay and the rain on the roof was quite noisy. Breakfast was good with a selection of hot and cold buffet and lovely barista style coffee. We ate in the restaurant on two nights, unfortunately the menu didn’t change, so I found the choices quite limited for myself. Overall we enjoyed our stay here.

The site is very challenging, we are reasonably fit and cope with stairs but we had a (delightful) room which had 37 steps from the road where you could drive in your car or be driven in a golf cart by the staff up to the door to the room/cabin. Because it is built on uneven terrain and they are retaining as much undisturbed as possible, the steps are inevitably uneven so not an easy climb. The resort is built into a heavily wooded hillside and with the exception of the main building are restricted by the beautiful trees themselves. The hotel facilities include tennis courts, pool, hot tub, sauna and a laundry room all free of charge. Meals in the restaurant were very good.

We had a 13 day stay that we booked 12 months ago. Stayed as part of the Accor Vacation Club. We feel as though we were given the worst room in the property. Poorly maintained room and facilities. Had to clean all kitchen items before using and wipe the thick film of dust out of kitchen cupboards. Told there was a communal laundry and led to believe that was it. Other members had washing machine facilities in their room. Housekeeping staff were the heroes of the stay. Poorly maintained garden beds and overgrown vegetation, causing more bugs and bees to inhabit the property than should be. The room was damp and smelt mouldy. This was like glamping, not a resort. Would have left earlier if we could have flown home. Would not recommend, nor return. EVER!.
