Great location, big rooms, friendly staff

Stayed here for three nights. Check in was easy (i had already checked in throuh the Accor app). All the staff I dealt with were so friendly and helpful, they really made my stay one to remember! I had a room on the 1st floor. Big room with all that you need. Was a bit surprised by the tini UHT milk on offer but it was replenished every day. House keeping staff were really lovely too. Easy parking - Saturday night was a bit full so had to park further away but still easy enough. Room service was okay. I got the burger - easy to order and it came quick but unfortunetly it was cold, as were the chips. Luggage storage was great. $20 for parking each day was a bit steep. Easy check out. Would stay again

First time staying at this hotel as I have an early appointment nearby and don’t want to be late. Being an Accor Plus member, I was well taken care of. The check-in/check out process was smooth and efficient. My room was ready ahead of time and was also allowed to check out a bit later than usual. Thanks for the awesome and very professional service by the front staff Jasmine & Manager Kerrie Anne. You ladies are the best. As far as the room is concerned, I have no issues with it. The TV channels (which is a lot) is very easy to navigate (unlike in most hotels) and the temperature control is very simple to use. The only thing I couldn’t give a 5 star rating was my not so great experience with Acacia restaurant. I had dinner with some family members visiting and our food took so long to arrive. We were starving big time and had to follow up numerous times. I just don’t know whether it’s always like that or they were short staffed at the time. Overall I recommend Novotel Ellerslie as the rates are generally good, buffet breakfast is great and the wifi is better.

Our group arrived before the scheduled check in time, and were greeted with huge smiles and a great welcome. We were able to access our rooms immediately, which was a great and unexpected bonus. The room was up to the Novotel Standard. Very clean, and a great room size. The only drawback was the Hotel Bar. I ordered some beers on tap, but the staff member who served me seemed more intent on making coffee for another customer who ordered after me. I was asked to take a seat, and advised the drinks would be brought out shortly. Meanwhile, the coffees were made and brought out before my order arrived. Our drinks (when they arrived) were warm and flat, I just wish that people were served in order that they ordered. The hotel is very close to the train station, and it is a quick and cheap train ride right into the CBD of Auckland. I would stay here again.

Totally great stay, Novotel quality standard , what made this stay 5 star was the staff in the bar and restaurant, great kiwi hospitality, if you don’t need central Auckland accommodation, stay here. Will stay again , rooms are of a good standard

Felt unsafe and unhygienic

Novotel and Ibis are in the same building so share reception and facilities. I find this strange, as they are different brands with different offerings. Room was tired, bathroom was clean but roof had dirty finger print marks (probably from tradie fixing lights or sprinklers). The bathroom was small with a shower over the bath. There was a horrible humming noise in the room - I think it was the in-house ventilation. It wasn’t loud, but it was there in the background and enough to be annoying (especially when trying to sleep). In Novotels attempt to be sustainable there are no rubbish bin liners - I find this unhygienic, particularly for sanitary products (no sanitary bags available either. One of the lifts wasn’t working and this caused backlog and frustration with guests. I was there for 4 nights and it only worked on my first night. A lift out of order sign or note to the guests would have been the nice thing to do. The lighting in the whole hotel was dim and since my room was at the end of the hallway, I felt a little scared/unsafe - I have stayed at many hotels with dim lights for sustainability but they would go brighter as you walked into the space. Parking is a nightmare. I knew I had to pay prior to going, but I didn’t know it was limited and if I came after 7pm I probably wouldn’t get a park. There is another carpark (I was told gate 3 of the racecourse) but I couldn’t even see where this was and didn’t fancy a long walk at night in heels. This meant I stayed in the hotel in the evenings and gave me the feeling of being restricted to the hotel. One day my keycard wasn’t working so I had to go to reception. She asked how my stay was and I said “to be honest a bit disappointing” - she didn’t ask any further questions or even respond (just looked akward). She was then going to give me a replacement key without even asking for ID. I’ve had many keycards not work over the years, but I have always been asked to prove my identify before giving me a new card. This just added to my unsafe feeling! The bar staff were efficient but not overly friendly. The food was good - usual Novotel standard. I stay at Novotels because they are fairly consistent worldwide. Not so with Novotel Ellerslie. It has a lot of work to do!

It is very unfortunate to read that you experienced a disappointing level of service at the Reception desk. We endeavor to provide an excellent customer experience as well security check for every guest and in this instance it seems not to have been the case. I have made note on your feedback in regards to the lighting, cleanliness of the room, the bathroom fitings, bin liners and parking and will be arranging a meeting with my heads of department to look into the matter and have these recitified.
