We've stayed at this hotel many times when visiting this beautiful city. It's a good choice for a reasonably priced hotel. There are good deals, especially for families. Breakfast is expensive, and there are bakeries nearby (a 12-minute walk). Parking costs extra. The outdoor parking lot is cheaper and is monitored by hotel staff with cameras—it was a good solution for us.

I am honestly shocked by my experience at this hotel. We were charged €32 for bringing two tiny chihuahuas (16€ per day), supposedly for “daily disinfection” of the room. Yet the room was never cleaned during our 2-night stay. When I complained, the staff simply said they “couldn’t do anything” and that they would clean the next day – which was our departure day, so pointless. On top of that, charging €16 per night per dog is absolutely ridiculous. In the daily room rate for guests you get a bed, towels, shower, electricity, breakfast, etc. – for the dogs, nothing at all was provided: no water bowl, no food, not even a blanket. If you want to charge for pets, at least provide actual services. Here, not only were there no services for the dogs, but even the basic cleaning for people was missing. This is the first time something like this has ever happened to me in the Accor chain, and it was truly embarrassing. The hotel itself is poorly maintained: the elevator shakes and makes alarming noises, the cleanliness is very poor (dust everywhere in the room), and the overall atmosphere feels neglected. Despite being advertised as a city hotel, it is over 1 km from the center, in an inconvenient and not particularly pleasant area. Staff were rude and dismissive throughout. An overall disappointing and embarrassing experience – definitely not what you expect from an Accor hotel.Ed

Standard Ibis, a bit far from the main sights

Ibis hotels are quite basic, and normally I would give them three stars, but this was a bit better than most Ibis, with some rooms that are slightly bigger than standard. A few even have balconies, as mine did. The breakfast was better than many Ibis hotels, with reasonable selection and quality, and I found the front desk staff to be quite helpful - so, four stars. However, it still has the normal tiny Ibis bathroom, and no in-room safe. There is some short-term street parking by the hotel, which allows time to check in and then get access to the underground hotel parking. Downside was the location. In one way it's good if you are driving, as access from the Autobahn is easy, but it is a long way to the old town. The front desk staff helpfully explained about the public transit options (bus), which would have been a good option, and easy, but the people I was with wanted to walk - and it's a long walk! The underground hotel parking (extra cost) is abundant, but the driveway down to the parking had a very narrow entrance. We managed it (just), but some people obviously hadn't, as there were a lot of paint scrapes on the sidewalls. If you are driving a larger car, you will have to be very careful on your entry and exit. Overall, it was a good stay, however.

Ibis City Hotel in Lübeck

The Ibis Hotel, located not far from the main train station, offered me a carefree existence during my stay. The breakfast is simple, but it is very good in terms of taste and range. The rooms had good internet, the beds were large, although a bit hard for my taste. Sometimes the hallways are a bit noisy, otherwise it was very quiet.

Very well located, if you don’t mind being ever so slightly out of town. The hotel is in a largely residential area, with easy on-site parking and with a handy branch of Netto downstairs. There is also a good size Edeka within a few minutes walk. Lübeck old town is a good half hour walk, but very straightforward and there are regular buses down Fackenburger Allee too. Rooms are air conditioned, with fairly good soundproofing. I will ask for top floor next time, as there was a noisy family above me with heavy feet - even through concrete! Breakfast is excellent - lots freshly prepared on site, and plenty of choice. Staff spoke good English.
