We stayed at Novotel CBD Darwin over 2 separate stays during in October. Our room was booked by our travel agent and on arrival there was a slight misunderstanding with the room that was booked. The receptionist on duty at the time, Rubal, without hesitation changed our room to a waterfront facing room. She could not have been more helpful and was a pleasure to deal with, always welcoming on the front desk. The Hotel is ideally located,being close to the city and also right on the esplanade. It was a perfect location to use as a base while we travelled around the region. Only a short Uber ride to Mindil Beach Markets, Casino etc and a quick walk to the many Waterfront dining options. Great value for money The rooms although now slightly showing their age were always very clean and tidy. Thanks to the housekeeping team for their dedication Would definitely stay here again based on this experience

Sadly not the Novotel experience I'm used to as an All Accor Member and definitely not a four star hotel. The Good - The reception and bar staff were friendly and helpful however I could see that they were struggling with all the requests and enquiries. The bed was comfortable and pillows great as were the hand soap and body wash. I was upgraded to a room with a separate lounge which was great and offered me more space, however it looked over the carpark at the rear of the building. The Bad - The room was far tired... cracked tiles in the bathroom, the bathroom fan that came on at 5.30am that you can't turn off so have to shut the door, the loud fridge which has the light on 24/7 which keeps you awake and the loudest air con I've heard in years! The curtains had holes in them and looked rotten! The tiles were cracked in the bathroom (floor and walls) and you could see where there had been multiple attempts at mounting things on the wall that had not been successful with rudimentary repairs made. The top of the toilet was stained (I hope with bleach given the colour) and the shower, and other areas, just need a good scrub. The Ugly - The display for the air con was non existent and I couldn't see what I was setting. I had to go down to reception to ask for someone to fix it. The towels were threadbare in places and in other places so thin you could see through them. The shelves in the bathroom had not been dusted for months and they had rust stains on them from the brackets. However the most disturbing thing was the blood on the back of the bathroom door which made me wonder if it had ever been closed to clean anything, including the shower, behind it... This hotel is in desperate need of a refurb and until that is completed I would not recommend staying here if you are looking for a four star experience.

Disappointing, certainly not a 4 star Hotel. Believe the negative reviews

I have been an Accor All Live member for 5-6 years now. I booked our stay at Novotel Darwin CBD approximately 6 weeks before our arrival. When I made the booking I requested to have the highest floor possible as I/we booked a 2 bedroom Esplanade view room. My wife, daughter and I arrived at the Hotel at approximately 2.00 am on Saturday October 4, and checked out approximately 10.00 pm on Wednesday October 8. We were assigned a room on the first floor, so we were able to enjoy the view of trees across the road when it was light. After eating our "hot breakfast" at around 9.30 am I/we went to reception to voice our displeasure of our room location. At the time I didn't know that I was speaking with the manager. I advised the manager of our displeasure of our room allocation. I was advised that another guest will be checking out soon and that we will be able to change rooms once the vacated room has been cleaned etc. I obtained a luggage trolley and the three of us returned to our room on the first floor, we repacked the small amount of belongings that we had removed from our luggage before placing all of our luggage on the trolley. We then returned to reception at approximately 9.50 am and advised the manager that we will be going for a walk and will return sometime around 12.00 noon, we also gave the manager our 2 x key cards for our first floor room, so was unbale to enter our first floor room, and our belongings, on our return. The manager assured us that our new room will be ready for us on our return. We returned to the Novotel at approximately 12.50 pm. Our adult daughter is autistic and needed a rest to self-regulate. After having only 4-5 hours sleep, along with the heat and arriving from Melbourne, we just wanted to relax for awhile in our room before going for a swim in the Hotel pool. The male staff member at reception advised us that our new room is not yet ready and that it will be at least another 30 minutes before the room will be ready. I asked to speak with the manager numerous times before finally being advised that the manager was in a meeting and was unavailable to speak with me/us. Approximately 1-2 minutes later my wife observed the manager going up to the first floor in the elevator, he retrieved our luggage from room 126 and then went up to the third floor in the elevator to move our luggage into room 317. Our initial interactions with the manager and the other staff member at reception was far from welcoming. Although the room was clean, our first impression was an odour of damp/mould, and an outdated room. We paid for buffet breakfast for each morning that we were at the Novotel. We found the breakfast to be disappointing. There was a limited choice of food, the "hot food", e.g. bacon, eggs, sausages, pancakes, mushrooms etc. was at best warm, and far from being hot. On Tuesday October 7 I/we attempted to contact reception and room service via the telephone in our room to order lunch, unfortunately after numerous attempts I was unable to speak with anyone at reception, or at the room service extension listed on the room telephone. My wife and daughter eventually went down to reception to place a request for room service. My wife was advised that the hotel does not provide room service for Accor All Live members, however they decided to bring our lunch to our room. I ordered a cheeseburger, which was delivered to our room in a timely manner. However, after waiting for well over 30 minutes for my wife and daughters food, my wife went down to reception to enquire about the remaining food that we had ordered. My wife was then advised that the Hotel staff had forgotten about the remaining food that she had ordered. My wife returned to our room, a few minutes later a staff member knocked on our door and advised us that the remaining food will be ready in another 10 minutes approximately. My wife and daughter were wanting to go for a swim, which they did do, with their lunch finally being delivered to them at the swimming pool. It was glaringly obvious that the Novotel was desperately understaffed. We were also shocked that the bathroom didn't have an exhaust fan installed. There was a notice posted on the bathroom door that advised guests to close the bathroom door whilst showering as well as after showering to prevent steam setting off the fire alarm, which would result in a fine to the hotel guest of approximately $1,200.00. There was peeling paint on the ceiling of the bathroom as well as the back of the bathroom door. The condition of the balcony was not to the standard of a 4 Star Hotel. On the "ceiling" of the balcony there was a gaping hole with exposed pipework for the air-conditioning unit. I/we also noticed the remains of at least 2 x mushrooms on the floor under the air-conditioning unit. The mushrooms appeared to of been there for quite awhile as they were black.

Our standard check-in time is 2:00 pm, as most vacant rooms are cleaned and prepared around that time, and the cleaning duration can vary depending on circumstances beyond my control. That said, my team and I worked very hard to have your room ready before 1:00 pm. Once our housekeeping supervisor informed me that your new room was ready, I promptly assisted with moving your luggage. As I approached to hand over your new room key, I noticed your frustration, and my team later confirmed that you had been trying to reach me. Nonetheless, I sincerely apologize if this situation did not meet your expectations. I am also very sorry to hear about the other issues you experienced. Your comments regarding breakfast, room service, and staff availability have been shared with my food and beverage and front office teams to ensure these matters are addressed promptly. I understand your concerns regarding staffing levels and how this impacted your experience. Please be assured that your comments regarding maintenance, cleanliness, and amenities have been shared with my housekeeping and maintenance teams for immediate attention. I also regret that aspects such as the bathroom exhaust, balcony condition, and overall room amenities affected your comfort. Please note that renovations are planned soon to improve these areas. I value your feedback immensely, as it helps me improve our services and facilities. Don't ask me how it could happen but when i arrived the hotel had me booked to arrive on the day i was departing. No problems though - all fixed in a flash. Very pleasant front office gal. The open artium area has been given a tropical makeover - I am not suggesting Tarzan is about to swing in from the trees - but don't be surprised. There is lots of lush vegetation along the paths and hanging down from the top floor - even a little creek. Nice introduction to tropical Darwin really. The room was fairly basic but comfortable and overlooked the esplanade. No mod cons like USB slots but i always carry a couple of plug-ins.

This hotel is desperately in need of a refurb. We enjoyed our dinner and breakfast was ok. I was upgraded to a junior suite but what a weird set up. The bedroom was a large space with nothing in it. Not a shelf in sight. The entrance room had a couch and table with 2 chairs. The carpets throughout were dirty and the floors in the Dining buffet area were disgusting. Wouldn’t stay again even though it’s a lovely location
