Still a classic after intense renovation in last years. Location unforgettable. Room on the Cataract impressive. Pool well positioned and relaxing . Food and service perfect. Special mention to the 1901 restaurant. Service classic and kind. Spacious room.

The high tea was delicious ! The setting is beautiful, I came here as part of an Intrepid tour in Egypt. The service was wonderful. Hedra and Assaran provided excellent and attentive service! :) We sat on the terrace and enjoyed a pleasant evening. I felt like I was transported back in time to an old world!

I am a big fan of Agatha, they usually only took the room guest for the tour, but I don’t know at first, so the manager arranged another private tour for me,they are so nice! and I have dinner here, the food is also delicious, M.Sayed guided for me,he introduced a lot history about the hotel, it’s so amazing here, I wanna come back next time ~

Fantastic Vacation Stay in Aswan Nile Riviera

TripAdvisor rating 5.0/5

johankusch TripAdvisor review

Most people stay in this hotel for one to two nights while visiting Abu Simbel or at the beginning/end of a Nile cruise. By contrast, we stay for 10 days and do so every May when the large pool overlooking the Nile is at its most inviting. The hotel is a destination in itself and merits being treated so. The Winston Churchill and Agatha Christi suites are one of the must-see tourism sites in Aswan, and the fabulous 1902 restaurant is the best in Upper Egypt. You can also take a traditional afternoon tea on the lower terrace - this is an interesting hybrid of English and French cuisines. The hotel staff are to a person simply delightful and willing to meet any need promptly and courteously. My lifestyle is to combine work with vacationing to maximise the physical time away from the office. This hotel makes it possible with a separate large workspace provided in the 80 square metre suites in the newer Old Cataract building. The top floor suites have a panoramic view of the Elephantine area of the Nile that is arguably unmatched anywhere. It is our intention to continue returning to the Old Cataract every May. Until kingdom com..........

Disappointing

Yes the pillows are the fluffiest ever but this hotel leaves a lot to be desired. We arrived at the hotel from a Nour el Nil cruise and had heard one of the Directors of Nour el Nil, Eleonour the previous night telling other guests to certainly visit the hotel but not to eat in the hotel as the food was not good. We thought this was was just sour grapes from a fellow compeditor but actually she was spot on! We had decided not to be influenced by her and yes we thought the setting of the hotel was amazing but this place is sitting on its laurels. The food in 1902 was grim and a couple of main courses were unavailable from an already limited menu - there were 6 other people in this cavernous dining room the night we dined there..... Breakfast was ordinary . We also ate on the terrace bar on 3 occasions which was okay but the service was poor. 4 unremarkable Negronis in the bar were £100 (£60 Four Seasons Nile Plaza Cairo) Luckily our Abu Simbel trip made up for this blip in our otherwise perfect 13 day visit to Eygpt. I love Eygpt and have visited for both business and pleasure at least a dozen times over the last 10 years - sadly I will not be visiting nor recommending Old Cataract in the future.
