A Hotel in need of better management

This is a five star hotel, why do they make so many mistakes - lots of little ones. No soap near the bathroom sink - they had after shampoo conditioner next to the sink. They have no change at the front desk. How do you give little tips to the staff if you cannot get change - sort of shortchanges the staff - get the pun? They offer you a free drink at check in - front desk - says any drink ( I did not believe that), the waiter in the bar area says any beer or wine - when you order - he says - when you order - well not that wine. Smoking - I have been to many places on the planet where smoking is not in the buildings - not in Algiers - the bar reeks of smoke, and when we had breakfast outdoors on New Years Day there is a guy smoking a cigar. It appears the Sofitel is appealing to the minority and subjecting many people to second hand smoke. Rare was the time that the front desk was not busy and the four or five times that I needed to visit with someone - it involved a lengthy wait. We went on a day trip and came back to a different room. I turned on the shower in room 405 and the next thing I know I had a small flood. The shower is not equipped to move the amount of water that comes out of the shower down the drain. This is just plain weird. Once I saw what was going on - i had to use all of the towels and the bathrobe to absorb the water. This is a serious design problem. Current solution is probably to limit the amount of water that can go to the showerhead. Really annoying. I liked the staff - management must not be doing their job - identifying issues and solving them - if the staff does not know what bottle to put next to the sink - color code them so they do not continue to make that mistake. Infrastructure is fine - two of the best staff where women - Saturday morning - the women who was tending the club lounge and the young lady who was working the front desk on the 3 pm shift. There need to be more women in key positions in this hotel - they solve problems

Old hotel and prehistoric room

One of the worst rooms I ever stayed at in my life. Very old and badly in need of renovation from the bathroom to the closet to the electric sockets to the tables and even the bed all are in bad shape and worn down and amenities don’t even exist ! I gave this one point only for bed comfort

A Shocking stay at the sofitel , I can totally understand that the hotel is old , but what i don't understand is how come there is no maintenance, it's so run down , needs serious renovation , first time in my life I stay at what is supposed to be a 5 star hotel where the slippers in the room are not wrapped !!! , best things about the hotel is the breakfast area , the garden and the pool .... that's it ... smoking is more or less allowed , u can smell it everywhere , this is by far the worst sofitel I ve ever encountered

Sofitel is well known worldwide for its excellent service, friendly staff and luxury environment. This one… well, I start to get the feeling that this is slowly moving downhill and starts feeling more like a 3,5 to 4 star… is it only me? Having said this, these are my thoughts about my stay here over the past week: POSITIVE: + Nice modern building from the outside. + Absolutely amazing reception / bar are, making you truly feel that you are in a luxury hotel. Rooms… another story. + One of the main assets of this hotel are the staff. In every single are that I passed through… everyone was pleasant / smiling and extremely helpful for any request. + A shout-out to the cleaning staff. They do an amazing job of keeping this completely spotless. Well done!!! + Free shuttle service to and from the airport. + Internet works without glitches… perfect. + Bathroom and shower experience is great. Hot water arrives fast, and a decent pressure. SO / SO: +/- The rooms do not match the lobby. Lobby amazing / rooms do not fit the match. Don’t get me wrong… bed is comfy, and everything works perfectly. The furniture is not up to spec. It is something that you expect to see in a 3-star hotel. NEGATIVE: - Extremely high prices. Burger and beer = EURO. 30,00… way overpriced. WHY??? - This is a “5-star” hotel… then why on earth is the breakfast at the level of a 3-star hotel? Basic, and very simple. Where is the fresh fruit? Where is the variety? Really? Please, please upgrade. There is no reason for paying so much to stay here and this is the start of the day you get??? - Fittings in the rooms are broken… loose and pathetic. SUMMING UP: I like the hotel… especially the staff… but there needs to be urgent revamp. Today… and honestly speaking… this is more of a 3,5 to 4-star hotel, rather than the 5-star hotel that it claims to be. PLEASE, management… spend some of the expensive money you charge us, to improve the place. Will I return… not sure = needs improvement to see my money again.

Stayed for 4 nights on the 5th floor The positives A decent location, about 10 minutes by taxi from the Casbah. Clean and a nice big room with garden view Massive and very comfy bed Well appointed bathroom Wide TV choice, but only one English Channel Free shuttle bus service to and from the airport Very good breakfast and dinner buffet The bad Concierge desk is a joke. Over half an hour trying to get a pass for the pool, only to be told that one wasn’t required Tried to get 2 wristbands to get into the garden next door - to be told they’d run out Room full of smoke from the indoors bar on the ground floor. This is AWFUL. Booked a shuttle bus to the airport, but they had no record of the booking. The information about dining options is completely out of date We spent GBP400 on food and non-alcoholic drinks on a 4 night stay. Private airport transfer is GBP50, when a private taxi is USD10 Hailed a cab from concierge - which had been given the wrong address The front-desk team need a professional kick up the a$$
