Terrible experience. I was given a room key for an occupied room. I returned to reception and was given no apology at all...I emailed Novotel and they just ignored me. I would not feel safe staying at this hotel in future.

I’ve stayed just one night here in Sheffield on a quick trip, and what could’ve been a scary moment turned into the best part of the stay. My friend lives with diabetes, and around midnight, her blood sugar took a sudden dip. We rushed to call reception, hearts racing, and were met by i believe his name is Angelo the night team – who didn’t even blink. The room itself was clean and quiet – exactly what we needed . We left feeling looked after, not just housed. Would 100% come back.

We booked as a late decision the day before I broke my own rules of not checking Trip advisor first !!! So 😂😂 We arrived into Sheffield and went straight to the hotel (11:30am) we parked in the secure car park, we were lucky enough to get a space. We went up into the hotel it’s very strange the pool and gym are downstairs but you have to go up into a lift or two flights of stairs to get to reception. The lady was polite and explained where the shops were and the attractions we had come to see. The hotel is really well located for the Christmas market the cathedral. That however is where the good things stop. We came back to the hotel at 2:10pm and the lady that was on the desk was rude and unhelpful he said we wouldn’t be able to check in until 3. That’s fine no issue HOWEVER while we sat in reception waiting for 3pm to come round several other people arrived and checked in and at2:45 2 families were called forward to check in but we were ignored !! At 3pm we went and checked in a lady served us she was pleasant. We were in room 535 and it was not great it looked like a budget hotel see pictures, their were places where the wall paper (1980’s woodchip)had come of and it had been painted over. The vent in the separate tiny toilet was hanging of and sharp. The sofa bed had a rip on the end that was sharp and dangerous we had to put a towel over it. The carpet was filthy. They had put a dog bed in for our dog but it was old and vile. The main bed was rock hard and we had to ask for more pillows as there were 2 !!!! The breakfast was average me and my daughter enjoyed it but my husband had the full breakfast and he said it was not great it was all at very different temperatures and the bacon was nearly cold, no fried eggs. The final thing that was not great when you go out the back way of the hotel to the shops theirs broken glass we did mention it to the staff but it was never swept up.

Yours was not ready but other rooms allocated to other guests were ready as the previous guest had departed earlier. Lamentable. following our recent stay at your hotel — our third and, regrettably, our last. Unfortunately, the overall experience fell well below expectations and did not reflect the standards one would anticipate from a four-star property. To begin with, the steam room was not operational during our stay, which was disappointing given it is one of the advertised amenities. Furthermore, the quality of breakfast has noticeably declined with each visit; this time, it was particularly poor and far from what we had previously enjoyed. To make matters worse, despite having breakfast included in our booking, staff repeatedly asked whether we had paid for it, which suggests a serious lack of internal communication and attention to guest details. The service attitude was concerning, with staff appearing largely indifferent to guest needs. The handling of our late check-out request was especially unsatisfactory. As a Gold Status member, a late check-out is a guaranteed benefit, yet we were refused on the grounds that the hotel had already granted four late check-outs that day — an explanation that is both unprofessional and inconsistent with loyalty program commitments. Additionally, the Executive Room we booked bore no resemblance to the “executive” standard it claims to represent. The facilities were ordinary at best, failing to justify the higher category or the hotel’s four-star rating. Finally, the EV chargers have reportedly been out of service since December 2024, which is unacceptable in today’s hospitality environment and reflects a clear lack of maintenance and guest consideration. Overall, the experience was deeply disappointing. What was once a hotel we enjoyed returning to has become one we will unfortunately not be visiting again. I sincerely hope you take this feedback seriously and address the significant operational and service shortcomings outlined above.

The hotel itself is nice enough and it is well located. However there were a few issues. 1) We were looking after our grandson on the last night so our son and daughter in law could go out. We just got him to sleep when the phone in our room rang waking him up. The call seemed to come from reception 2) There was an odd smell from the sink 3) I went to ask for some more milk and teabags from reception on the first morning to be told "Housekeeping will top them up". I was not even offered a couple of teabags
