Average Mercure hotel. Good location in terms of proximity to old city and attractions, and good link to the airport, but in a rather run-down area. Good breakfast. Check in was slow - despite having done the online check-in in advance. No soap in the bathroom and, despite a request to reception in person, none arrived, so had to use our own.

Great hotel, in great location - very short distance to the cathedral & walkable to all other sites/attractions. Excellent staff, very helpful and friendly. Lovely sized room, quiet and clean. Didn’t eat here so can’t comment on food or restaurant. Close to a metro line which goes to the airport.

It also depends on the outside temperature, which has been very high over the last few days, so there's not too much difference. I think this hotel used to be called the Mercure Mériadeck and this would be a more appropriate name. It’s not really in the city centre but about 15 minutes walk. Many others have mentioned the immediate surroundings and all of the descriptions fit. Dystopian dehumanised 1960s vision of a future that never was. And therein lies the problem. It’s just not a nice are to be in. Even at its best it would been cold and unwelcoming but the Meriadeck is now dirty and run down and it’s not a nice area to walk through at night. None of this however is the fault of the hotel. It’s situated where it is. But I’m giving this hotel 4 stars for the following reasons: The largely young hotel staff were friendly and helpful. They are well managed and it shows. The rooms were recently renovated and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable, the AC highly effective and the room was silent. We slept well. We got a very attractive deal for the hotel from Accor and each night bed and breakfast even in July was very reasonable. I price checked against other hotels and no deal came close. So if you want easy access to the historic centre of Bordeaux and can look past how grim the Meriadeck is, this is a good value for money choice. If I got a similar deal, I’d stay here again.
