Very noisy, disruptive guests created a miserable experience. A group of around 30 men, were very loud, shouting, roaring and banging the walls through the night. I called reception around 0400 the first evening to request intervention. The following night, the exact same problem. The hotel staff were not proactive to manage this ‘lads tour’ that behaved like a mix of a stag party and school boys on their first ever school trip, away from parents. I return to Gent for business again next week, I shall not be staying with Ibis again.

Great location in the city centre. This was our fourth stay at this hotel. The square can be noisy, especially during the weekend and the Christmas Market. So, when I booked, I asked for two rooms at the back. Many hotels ignore these requests. Not here. The receptionist had noted my request and organised two rooms at the back, close to each other. When we arrived, a party of four was being checked in. There were two receptionists. The second person was counting coins. We were left to wait. The customer clearly comes second. The room is basic, as you’d expect from an Ibis. But it and the bathroom were very clean. Two quibbles. One is the way chairs scrape on the floor, like fingernails being scraped down a blackboard. This could be resolved by putting rubber plugs on the ends of the chair legs. The second was the WiFi. It worked fine on five devices, except my phone for some reason. And yet the WiFi in our hotel in Leuven the night before worked fine on my phone and so did the airport WiFi next day. Based on reviews, I haven’t found better value for a short stay in Ghent.

A good two-day stay at Ibis. Comfy beds, hot shower, new facilities. Nice breakfast with lots of hot and cold options and the hotel is in a fantastic location. Booking was very smooth on the Accor website. Check in and out was very speedy online and I was able to notify of late arrival.

Excellent location overlooking St Baarfs Cathedral. Rooms were good, hallway was a little tired but the location was outstanding and would recommend on that basis alone. Remember if driving book it with the hotel in advance as only 14 spaces and a tight car park
