Great location and service, but the hotel looks its age

We enjoyed our two nights' stay at the Sofitel Grade Ile, though as other reviewers stated, the infrastructure is quite dated and in need of a renovation. Pros: - The location was fantastic, especially if you're in Strasbourg for the Christmas markets. The hotel is at the heart of the Grande Ile, but close to the bridges and tram stop to the rest of the city. - The service was generally good and in line with a five star hotel. We had a great check-in, and the bartender was brilliant and made us some very lovely mocktails. - Although the rooms and common areas look dated and worn, the bed was still superb (as with all Sofitels) and the five star amenities were still that (e.g. top quality bedroom slippers). They also installed a lovely ice rink for the winter. - We had dinner at the Sofitel Brasserie, and the food and service were excellent. The decor and condition of the Brasserie was also markedly better than the rest of the hotel. Cons: - For the price, the hotel looks dated and in need of refurbishment. The bathroom also needs a redesign and is not the most user friendly. - The rooms are pretty small for the price.

This hotel is set in a perfect location and the employees who work there are wonderful. The issue with this hotel is the rooms. They are small. Carpet is worn and dust and mold on vents. This is not a 5 star hotel and you pay quite a bit of money to stay here.

Bad customer service

This hotel is very dangerous for anyone who is staying there. The bath tub is slippery and no mat. Any elderly or individual can slip or fall and end up in the hospital. In addition, services are extremely slow for calling the taxi and sending up items. We already requested a number of items to be sent to our room online before we arrive. It was NOT done and we asked the receptionist “How long it would take?” He said “ it takes a couple of hours.” Last but not least they turned off the air conditioning in the winter and we had to open the windows for cool air. However, it’s extremely noisy as there were people below or next to the hotel shouting & talking so loud. This made our sleep rather difficult to sleep for the 3 nights. We had to move out this hotel asap and we left for good!

Poorly equipped fitness center (just a few appliances - no elliptical), old fashioned shower and cold temperatures in the meeting rooms (I was freezing). Disappointing

Felt like a 3 star hotel…

Staff were nice and housekeeping was great (very clean), this review is about the condition of the hotel. The hotel definitely doesn’t feel luxurious like many Sofitels are; dated & run down, musty/damp room smell that doesn’t go away, a lot of ambient HVAC background noise. Won’t be booking Sofitel by default again for a while.
