Not a 5 star hotel like the website describe. Check in was a lengthy process, from multiple different workers, just to get a credit card changed on the account. When entering the room there was a peculiar smell, and upon looking around the room had a large amount of mysterious stains on the furniture and dirty marks on all the table surfaces. What was meant to be a luxury 5 star romantic holiday was feeling more like an episode of hotel disasters. Upon investigating nearby stays it was seen that we were overpaying for something not as advertised, and this lead to us requesting a refund after staying only 3 hours. A refund that was accepted without even being asked why. Don't get me wrong, the refund was accepted quickly but actually getting the refund took nearly 5 days, multiple calls to the hotel and detailed emails to the hotel chains upper level management. All in all a nightmare that has deterred us ever staying in a Sofitel for the foreseeable future.

The reception staff should take more care at check in we were checked in and given room. On entry something was wrong then realized had put us in disabled room had to then organize another room. At checkout was told they would send statements on arrival at home received statements was charged double for accommodation. Also charge for drink from bar fridge. It then took me two hours and four phone calls to have this fixed not good. Then was told it will take up to 48 hrs for money to be returned told them not good enough they then did immediately

Great location, but quite a few years beyond five stars

Not a bad experience, but Aussie staff saying "Bonjour" doesn't make it five stars. Lobby & Grounds. No footpath from street, so walkway is shared with cars. Buses idling at front door (3 times in 2 days) make for an unpleasant entry. Pool area lovely, but walking track and rest of grounds need maintenance. Floor level monitors laughable green screen CRTs, looking very 90s. Level 2 lift info says "Oasis Shopping Centre", but door locked. Hand sanitiser dispenser lying on floor for 2 days in lift lobby. No huge problems, but all a bit tired. Room: clean and pleasant but no modern tech eg. usb ports, ipad, auto curtain. Old style Ipod deck though, would have been swish in 2010. Curtain pull rod broken. No soft close toilet seat. And I like the idea of being green and sustainable, but getting body wash from a giant pump is not 5 star. Overall a nice experience, but way overpriced for what it is. Pretending to be French and fancy, but really a generation behind.

Considering the staff shortages as a direct result of covid,we can but heap massive thanks to all concerned for making our holiday SUPERB. It's OK - there is nothing wrong it the hotel but it is feeling tried and old now I think even with all the 'refreshing' they've done over the years. It is time for a full refurb. They get away with it as they are the only traditional 'hotel' (of any star) in central Broadbeach. If you are used to 5 star hotels outside Australia then this will definitely disappoint - probably feeling more like a 4 star Novotel in Europe or Asia than a 5 star luxury property. Service was reasonable but wouldn't say it felt seemless or that any of the staff were too bothered to help or please. I stress, nothing 'wrong' with the place - but did feel a little more 4 star than 5 star and definitely over priced for what you get. However, as they are the only traditional chain hotel in central Broadbeach no doubt they'll keep getting away with the "OK" approach for years to come. Hopefully the arrival of the luxury Langham up the road, or the refurbed Star and Darling nearby will force them to raise their game (or lower their price to match whats on offer) - otherwise, I feel a Novotel rebrand coming on within a few years. For now though, no doubt they'll continue to get away with an average experience for high prices just due to location. That won't last forever.
