coolest night markets bangkok

When people think of Bangkok, they imagine bustling streets filled with merchants selling delicious street food and intriguing collectible items. And the truth is that Bangkok indeed has a wonderful culture of street markets. You can find almost anything you can think of in these huge markets, and exploring them during the night is a magical experience that’s hard to compare with anything else.
So if you’re looking for a place to shop around, have a bite to eat and enjoy a drink or two, here are three Bangkok night markets that will not leave you disappointed.

Rot Fai Market in Srinakarin

This famed Bangkok market has earned itself a name as the place where you can find almost anything, from antiques to hip fashion accessories.

However, where Rot Fai in Srinakarin really distinguishes itself from other markets is in its collectibles section that has been known to host some rare items. No matter what you’re looking for, it’s probably available at one of the thousands of stands in Rot Fai, and the selection is constantly evolving to meet even the most unique tastes.

Drop by to find something truly special to bring back home, or simply to feel the unforgettable atmosphere and enjoy a delicious snack at the street food section. It’s a great way to spend a night out, as you’ll never run out of things to see and explore.

Chatuchak Weekend Market

While it’s a very popular market during the day, Chatuchak offers a unique Bangkok night market experience on Fridays, which is less known among non-locals. Be captivated by the carnival-like atmosphere, marked by the many colourful stand umbrellas and the illumination of thousands of lights.

With more than 8,000 stands, the market is one of the most impressive sights in Bangkok. You’ll find huge sections selling clothing, accessories, ceramics, food, plants, and even pets. You will also find antiques and art, making it a perfect place to shop for souvenirs.

Rot Fai Market in Ratchada

While it isn’t the main Rot Fai market, Ratchada’s smaller version has all the charm of the Srinakarin market, without the need to go out too far from the city centre. In fact, it is located in an easy-to-access area of the city due to its proximity to the Thailand Cultural Centre MRT station. The market is often referred to as the “Train Market” — inspired by its original location next to train tracks on the outskirts of Bangkok.

Boasting a great selection of vintage collectible items, second-hand clothes and a food-and-drink section that can offer you some of the most intriguing street food in Bangkok, the market is popular with the locals due to its reasonable prices. It also has a cool, laid-back vibe, and its wares are known to be of good quality and nicely presented.

Wander amongst the colourful stalls with a cool drink in your hand and browse the wares while taking in the energy of the market for a night to remember. Add in live music and affordable drinks, and you’ve not only got a great shopping district, but a terrific place to hang out late in the evening.
