Mercure Rockhampton

This hotel needs a complete refurb to bring it into the 21st century. Not just newer carpets. I have some mobility limitations but none that have caused me to feel unsafe or at a disadvantage before. ie: A handle is in the bath tub, as the shower is at the far end of the tub. Getting in is reasonably simple but getting out safely is another matter. Needs an extra rail. They know there is an issue as they supply a non slip old style rubber mat and put up a warning. None of this works if you are short and have knee issues, At the time of booking we paid in advance for breakfast IN the hotel. To discover on arrival the restaurant isn't actually in the hotel, its next door up at least one level and has no lift for those who can not use stairs. NOTE: There is internal access via a lift and covered walkway if accompanied by a staff member (apparently the walkway can be unsafe, hence being accompanied) but that is not available if there is a conference on in the hotel - Gee we can inconvenience our guests who in good faith have pre-paid, but not the conference visitors! We ended up using uber eats for dinner and leaving early to find breakfast in a cafe in Rockampton. No apology and no offer of a refund for the not accessible breakfast. Admit we didn't ask for one, but that is the hospitable thing to do when they advertise and its only available to some. The online photos are out of date by years. The pool looks bright blue and stunning, but its so old the blue is now 50+-% black where I assume the paint has worn away. The only positive? We had only booked for one night

The hotel was located on Riverside with many good restaurants around it. The room was spacious, pillows were abundant and the beds were large. The breakfast buffet was cheap and perfect. The hotel staff were extremely hospitable. Check-out was easy and quick, and was assisted by Anjuta, a very friendly staff.

This hotel really needs to lift its game. Have stayed with Mecure all over Australia and Asia this place the worst I’ve seen. First night our travel bags, iPad, camera bags and brand new camera soaked through from an air con leak- to the hotels credit we were given a change in room next day also free breakfast. This is where it got bad I’ve had better breakfasts on the streets of Asia!we got there early and still no bread in Basket! Kids running around barefoot , No eggs left! No sausages! No rice! When foods were topped up instead of filling bay marie , chef would bring out 1 bowl of food which was instantly gone, still no bread, food being added at most minimal rate possible, no orange juice, coffee machine was hot watered down milk no coffee at all- if I had paid 30$ I would of 100% been asking for a refund it was really sad. Both bathrooms slippery floors, no exhaust fans, door can’t open or close properly - this place needs alot of maintenance and does not live up to Mecure name or standards.

The bed is horrible: mattress so soft you feel the springs, pillows without any hold or support, and the cover made in such a way that you cannot avoid to touch what previous guests have touched. Bathroom old and in dire need of an upgrade. Air condition so noisy that it keeps you awake.

The shampoo pump was stucked but service to request was addressed. Lack of greetings ,welcoming to hotel guests from the staff especially the man in charge of breakfast check in and the early reception staff when we departed as she was serving a guest inquiry she was quite grumpy wearing a red Christmas shirt. Overall check in process was good and fast. .
