Poor maintenance, poor service levels, little value for money

Hotel rooms have poor maintenance. Blocked drains. Door fraying and falling apart. Walls and ceiling painting poorly patched up, mould growing on ceiling. Pull out bed the worst we have ever had no padding and all springs. Poor service levels across the hotel. The staff do not appear to enjoy their jobs. Breakfast - do not recommend. Items not refreshed and always empty. Buy elsewhere. Low quality food and staff do not prioritise customer service. Only thing we recommend is the ocean view from the ocean side of the hotel. Disappointing for the premium price paid. Little value for money.

We stayed for one night at Mercure Penang before flying to KL and it was a pleasant surprise. The staff were friendly and attentive. The pool area and the beach views were fantastic. We had two Ocean View King Rooms 524 and 526 on the 5th floor conveniently located near the lift which also had a panoramic ocean view , clean, spacious and comfortable with amenities. The hotel honoured my Accor Plus privileges and despite the hotel being a full house the lovely lady “Kails” arranged for us to check in early. The duty manager “Gina” took the time to leave us a welcome note and some drinks and snacks in our room. Breakfast was also lovely. We would definitely stay here again and did not find any of the shortfalls listed in negative reviews we had read.

My stay at the hotel was very pleasant. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially at the front desk(MR.YOGES LETCHMANAN) Operation MANAGER . The room was clean and comfortable, and the hotel was well maintained. The location was convenient and close to nearby attractions. Overall, I had a great experience and would recommend this hotel to others.

Bedsheets are dirty with stains and hair. Requested for change of bedsheets but was only given the new one and expected to change ourselves. (Take with pinch of salt that housekeeping is off work at 11pm). Bathing towels come with a stale smell too. Toilets (basin etc) not catered for Asians who are shorter.
