Novotel Ulaanbaatar 4 星

Whilst the room and general facilities were good, the quality of service and appreciation of 'the customer' was beyond appalling. For the restaurant to run out of yogurt half way through breakfast is not acceptable; for there to be no coffee available at 22.00hrs in the lobby bar, is not acceptable; for there to be no manager or duty manger available after 18.00hrs is not acceptable; for ACCOR the owner of Novotel to ignore my emails and fail to respond, even though I emailed their CEO M. Bazin is a clear illustration of cause and effect. The CEO ignores customer service and that is then reflected at the operational level!

I stayed here several times over a three week trip through Mongolia. We used it as a home base and would stay here 1-3 nights in between our trips to the more far flung places in Mongolia. On the whole I was very pleased with the hotel. It is (as to be expected) cookie cutter with rooms that could be found at any Novotel across the world. Charm and unique character is not what you will find here, consistency and predictability you will, which is, after all, why you are choosing a Novotel - right? Beds were clean and comfortable, as was the room and bathroom. Amenities such as bathrobes, slippers, in room safe, TV, AC, etc, are all there. Friendly and professional staff, laundry service, check check and check. There were definitely challenges with the AC in multiple rooms. Some rooms worked great, others not at all or cooling was stuck on. Sometimes there was a floor unit (big white thing) they brought into the rooms where the AC was broken (if you see one when you walk in you'll now know why). A window in the room does open so I did this to help cool things down when the AC was broken. As in general Mongolia is not super hot (though large buildings do get warm) I managed when I had a room with cooling challenges. The TV was a little funky with two boxes that needed to be turned on. The second little box controlled the channels and was often pointed down or at an odd angle which made changing stations difficult. I propped it up so it was facing the bed which helped. The breakfast was plentiful with many options. During peak times some items ran out and it took a little while to get them refilled, but they did do it, often to have people jump on it and empty it again. There seemed to be little effort to clear the tables during rush times so things could get a little messy as people left and the next wave came in, and finding silverware was at least on one occasion a real challenge. But on the whole it was a satisfying breakfast. Laundry service was great and reasonably priced. Even used the express service once and the turn around was super quick We did have one night where the water went out, I had woken up and noticed it so called the front desk at about 2:30am, They said they would have a tech look and it was more or less fixed by early the next morning (in fact I'm pretty sure in less than 2 hours it was fixed as I heard it gurgling through the pipes). The hotel is well located and in 15 minutes or so you can walk to many sites. Many restaurants close by. There is a GS25 mini mart right across the street so you can pick up water, etc. There is a larger supermarket about a 5 minute walk away too so if you want a more extensive selection not far away. I would definitely stay here again and do recommend it.

The staffs of this hotel are very friendly , courteous and professional. My special gratitude to MR. Arimi who had assisted me to locate and took me to a pharmacy to get the medication that I so desperately needed . My commendation is extended to him. The room is very comfortable and good size . The only glitch is that the TV did not work. Wifi is good

Friendly staff nice room. Not sure how the ac worked or rather didn’t. Clean spoke English very well. Helped with tour guides and other travel arrangements. Will stay again when return x🥃😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀

I wasn’t expecting much from this hotel, but it completely surprised me. I will keep it in context though it’s no five star luxury hotel. I did give it five star because it meets the cost/amenity matrix. My room was incredibly large and spotlessly clean The gym was the best hotel gym I think I have ever seen in all my travels. I loved the spa sauna area. My only criticism would be the food. The Buffett was a zoo every time I was there and they don’t clean up after people leave so it just made it a hot mess. I have decided Mongolia is not known for its food in general, so I don’t think this place was that out of touch Overall, I would recommend staying here. The staff without fail were polite and helpful and you can’t really ask for more than that.
