My experience at the Fairmont, which is supposed to be a luxury hotel chain under Accor, was quite disappointing. As an Accor Gold Member, I expected better service. Upon check-in, which was after midnight, I received no room upgrade, no welcome drink, and was greeted by a rather unfriendly staff member. I was exhausted from my flight and just wanted to sleep. I was assigned Room 809, but sleeping was nearly impossible due to the noisy AC fan. The room wouldn’t cool down despite the outside temperature being around 8°C, and inside it felt like 30°C with no way to open a window for fresh air. After a long day touring the Great Wall, I complained about the room and requested a change, but was told the AC had been looked at. The second night was just as unbearable—far too hot, despite the outside temperature dropping to 0°C. Finally, on the last night, I was moved to Room 2210, which was better. Additionally, the shower in Room 809 had black and brown mold on the grout, which was disgusting. To top it off, I didn’t seem to receive any points for my stay. Breakfast on the final day was another letdown—there wasn’t enough food, and they didn’t replenish it. Overall, a very disappointing experience, especially from a hotel of this caliber.

I had a great stay at Fairmont Beijing last week. Their welcome in the very early morning was warm and efficient. I had e-mailed and asked if I could use the gym upon arriving while waiting for the room but the room was already ready - which was much appreciated after an over-night flight. And not only that - I had also been upgraded to a room with plenty of space and a great bathroom. My room was booked with Fairmont lounge access, which was mostly a great experience. Staff were super-friendly (but not particularly good at preparing omelettes, so for the full breakfast experience I recommend to eat in the main restaurant), and they had great teas and snacks on offer. I really liked their gym, an important reason why I will come back already the coming weekend. Another major reason is their pastry chef. Their sweets were just awesome. Housekeeping also did an amazing job. The rooms could probably do with a renovation soon, but the hotel has charm. My visit was part of a work trip where I was partly staying at Fairmont and partly booked by our hosts at InterContinental Sanlitun. I normally stay at InterContinental but I was so happy with Fairmont that I have decided to cancel my stay with InterContinental and stay with Fairmont also when I return this weekend. I am looking forward :-)

I always stay at this hotel whenever I am in Beijing. Mr Tom Zheng Xue, the Concierge manager, has been great. He has been helping me arrange my airport transfers for the past year, including that of my colleagues. He always makes sure to check our logistical details. Comfortable bed and pillows However they forgot my Welcome Amenities even though I am on my way to Platinum. I was given a room upgrade though. I am coming back in October. Hopefully the experience will be better. Breakfast needs improvement. Food quality is poor although it has a great variety of items.
