My husband and I stayed at The Fairmont St Andrews over the weekend and, unfortunately, our experience fell short of expectations. This was our final night away before becoming parents next month, I had hoped for a relaxing and memorable stay. The first disappointment came at check‑in. The receptionist did not smile or offer a warm welcome. The whole process felt robotic and uninviting, which set the tone for the rest of our stay. Our room itself was lovely—spacious, comfortable, and the bath that filled quickly was our favourite feature. However, despite booking a seaview room, our view was dominated by a skip directly outside the window, which significantly detracted from the experience. The requirement to book time slots for the swimming pool was frustrating, especially as there were no towels or available loungers when we arrived for our allocated session. There is clearly space for additional beds, and a water station closer to the pool would also be a welcome improvement. Breakfast was the highlight of our stay. The selection was excellent, everything tasted fresh, and the staff member who seated us was warm, helpful, and informative. It was the only part of our visit that felt truly five‑star. However, as we were leaving, the queue for breakfast stretched across the lobby—long, disorganised, and not what you would expect from a hotel of this calibre. If guests must book slots for the pool, a similar system for breakfast could help avoid such overwhelming queues. Check‑out brought further issues. We were presented with a bill of around £100 for a restaurant we had not visited. Although the receptionist apologised and assured us the charge would be removed, it still appeared on my credit card the following day. I emailed the hotel but have yet to receive a response—another example of the lack of attention to detail throughout our stay. Overall, our visit was disappointing and did not reflect the standards of a five‑star hotel. It’s a shame, as this was meant to be a special stay for us, but it simply didn’t deliver.

Prob the worst Fairmont experience ever had . Customer service is horrendous. Choice of eating places really poor. Having to book to use swimming pool and noticing it was empty was pathetic . Rooms looking tired . Won't be returning

Beautiful surroundings, nice rooms, bathrooms lovely, nice chilled atmosphere around the bar but a few areas could be improved. Ate lunch at Kittock Bar and it was superb, Salmon and potatoes was brilliant. However, at night i ate at the Italian restaurant and it was pretty bland and not a particularly nice environment compared to the rest of the resort. Felt almost like a canteen. The service at the bar at night was far from 5 star. Staff quite rude e.g. assume it was the manager interrupting me in an abrupt manner ask for room number after I's started relayinh my order. Another member of the bar communicated it was table service only also in quite an abrupt manner. If you're paying £17 for a glass of wine then the customer service should match the price. The table service was very slow and ineffective. The rest of the staff throughout the hotel were nice and had good customer service skills. Nice place, spa was good and bathrooms were a highlight. But room for improvement.

Overnight Spa Break

Stayed for an overnight spa break. Couldn’t fault the hotel at all. The room was cosy, clean and spacious. I got a facial in the spa, Aleksendra, was amazing. Such a lovely calming manner and explained the best products for my skin type. I would definitely recommend the hotel and facilities.

Fantastic hotel and staff, but beware of in-room snack prices

This is a fantastic hotel but with ‘fantastic’ prices! Admittedly the hotel is 5 star, and everything about it is luxurious, however some of the prices they charge are, in my opinion, borderline ridiculous which is why I made this a 4 star review rather than 5 star. The staff are fantastic - from Jamie the concierge manager, to Daniel one of the concierge team who took us to & from St Andrews - to the reception, bar and restaurant staff. La Cucina restaurant is beautiful however the food was good rather than excellent, with the wine starting from £40 per bottle. The staff however were again really nice and very attentive. The seating area near the bar, and all surrounding areas are luxurious as you’d expect. The spa is also very nice and definitely lived up to the 5 star billing. We made the mistake of eating the peanuts in our room for which we were charge £21 for 2 small jars. Probably the most expensive snack we’ve ever eaten. Thankfully we didn’t sample the 37.5ml wine at £23, or the miniature of whisky at £15. I appreciate that a 5 star hotel can charge a bit more, however I think that some of the prices are a little bit excessive. We had a lovely break and would consider returning to the hotel but may avoid the peanuts!
