Syed and Mamun were first class! They made this experience for our kids more incredible than we could have imagined. Top notch service for a first class experience of Tea at The Plaza. Our girls loved every minute of this experience and we will be back.

Our server, Fariz, was amazing and the tea was truly delightful. The attention to detail from the food to the service was over the top. It was an experience I was able to share with my daughter that I’ll always remember.

Horrible hospitality

This was my first stay at the plaza. My parents stay at the plaza very often and sadly this time they took care of my stay. To start with, the Hotel is very old and you can hear air system sound very loud every night, as the system is right next to bed. The house keeping only fixed my bed and touched nothing at all, no water refreshing, no towel refreshing. Overall, no consistency in ANYTHING. One they they serve coffee, the other day they do not. You always have to mention you are a hotel guest for them to give you coffee. They don’t even ask you if you are a guest. There is always A NO at every conversation. Hospitality is something they never heard of. I shared my horrible experience with the hotel stuff and manager but I didn’t even hear a single sorry. All I got as a response was an “ OKAY”. I stayed in many luxury hotels around the world, i would even say most of the best that exist. The plaza is one of the worst experiences i’ve had throughout my WHOLE LIFE. My advice: stay away from this hotel

Mediocre comfort and service for top dollar price tag

My husband and I decided to stay there on a Thanksgiving trip to New York. We figured it was worth the cost to have a truly memorable experience. The good: the staff is extremely nice and personable, in a non-fake way. The bartender at the champagne bar was humorously grumpy about having to work on thanksgiving, which made us feel like old friends, for example. In-room dining staff (especially Freddy!) were funny and pleasant conversationalists while setting up breakfast. I was at the Philly Four Seasons in February, and the staff there was so snooty and icy, I felt like I didn’t belong and I should just leave them alone. But the staff here were great, without fail. Other guests were also quite pleasant. The rooms are good sized with great closet space. The mediocre: The bathrooms are large and lovely, but the sink vanity had no space for putting toiletry bags. The counter had no extra room when I was putting on makeup or doing my hair, so I carted my toiletries back to the closet every time. There was no hook next to the sink for hanging toiletries. There was a vanity mirror, but it was not wall mounted so I had to hunch down to use it. So I didn’t use it. The bad: The mattress. It was super hard with no cushioned topper. We could feel the tufting of the top of the mattress. I am 41, so not particularly old, and I woke up about every 2 hours with sore hips and had to roll over. It was one of the least comfortable hotel mattresses I have ever slept on, and my husband and I have a very firm mattress at home, so we’re used to a mattress that doesn’t give. The pillows. Fluffy down pillows that collapse. Maybe I could have asked for different pillows, but you know what? There was no book in the room listing the sorts of amenities we could change or services that would be provided. I’m used to nice hotels listing the options you have for things like that (different pillow options being a common one), and I don’t want to guess or feel like a jerk for asking. They should tell me. Room temperature. We could not get the room to be 68 degrees or lower for sleeping without having the A/C blasting cold air. The temp was set to 72 when we arrived, which is a little warm for us even during the day. For sleeping, it’s way too hot. If we set it to 68 on the mixed or heat setting, it stayed at 72 and got stuffy. We could turn it on to fan only, which helped prevent stuffiness but stayed at 72. But the only way to lower the temp was to turn on the A/C, which blows toward the bed, so when it turned on we’d get a shot of cold air blowing at us. Which woke us up. We even set the heat to 68 when we went out at noon, hoping it would be cool by the time we got back at night, but nope. Still 72. So if there was another way to get it to be cooler, we couldn’t figure it out. Yes, we could have called someone to see if we were missing something, but I prefer to have things just work correctly. Especially when you’re paying…$1800 a night. The sheets/bedding. Thin duvet that wasn’t very warm, somewhat scratchy sheets. They should have blankets or something in the closet. Again, I probably could have called housekeeping, but in my PJs at 3 am with AC blowing on me, I just want a blanked to use until the AC shuts off. Attention to detail by staff. Housekeeping was very nice, but several things were missing when we checked in. I had a bath on thanksgiving morning, and I didn’t realize that the jar above the tub was supposed to have bath oil/bath salts. I thought it was a decorative empty jar. So I didn’t have that. It was refilled the next time we had housekeeping, and then I realized. That same morning, after my bath, I showered to wash my hair. The conditioner and body wash bottles (wall mounted) in the shower were empty. We did make sure they were refilled, but still. We had room service breakfast twice. Neither time did all items make it up the first time. Not a huge deal, but again, when you’re paying like $18 for a pot of coffee, you don’t want to wait 35 minutes for your cream to come up. One small thing: no in-room coffee. Not even an nespresso or lavazza. In the morning, sometimes I want a single cup of coffee. I don’t want a whole pot, and I don’t want to wait an hour for room service to bring up a pot of coffee (and then anothe 35 minutes for the forgotten cream). I get that it’s a little gauche, but it’s pretty standard now. And again, $1800 a night…and there’s a huge bar with a sink in the room. Plenty of space to put the machine. Cost/variety of food. Exorbitant cost, and while good, it wasn’t amazing. The tea is $155, and the Palm Court isn’t so lovely as to make it worthwhile. The Palm Court is also not great for dinner, but it’s the only restaurant on site. It was small plates/lunch-type food but for the price of a nice dinner entree. I happily spend lots of money on food when it’s good, but there wasn’t a ton of variety or anything notable about the offerings. It was like a fancy kid’s menu. The public spaces of the hotel. If you’re expecting expansive lobbies and places to sit and people watch or read a book, sorry. It’s very underwhelming. The lobby shown in movies isn’t for hotel guests, and there are three small old elevators. So you’re often waiting several minutes for elevators with a bunch of other people. The champagne court is a bar/restaurant in the morning for eating and drinking, not for guests to relax. It also encroaches into the lobby, so people are often tripping over each other in the little space left. There’s no grand stair, the stores are down this dark hallway and then dark stair, and they are all very small. The hotel was decorated for Christmas, but the trees and garlands were tacky white-flocked and boring. I expected more. That’s the theme: I expected more. This is supposed to be an experience, and other than a lot of expensive marble, it was worse than most 4 star hotels I’ve stayed in.

The best experience
