Great staff, particularly, Zalfa at the receptionist area, all in the restaurant and all in the lobby in probably one of the best locations for foreigners (malls with restaurants a few sreps away). Rooms with new generation concepts but with slightly off-balanced designs of doors around the bathroom. A wide choice of "local foods" for breakfast. One may try to walk to/from Yogyakarta train station.

I stayed in this hotel for two nights. The check in was very smooth. The room was decent. Unfortunately it had no view. This hotel is in Malioboro so it was a very busy place. I was able to go and get some dinner easily. Unfortunately, in the morning, I found some ants in the room. When I informed the hotel, they kindly offered to change the room. I went out for the day and when I came back, my room was ready to be transferred. This was a nicer room with a good view of the city. Overall, I found the hotel was decent but lower in quality than other Novotel I have stayed in. The bathroom, especially was very dated and I did not enjoy the shower at all. The service was excellent.

The hotels location is perfect. It's a 7 min walk to/from the main train station, so no need to fight for a taxi or Grab and located beside Malioboro street for lots of shopping and street food. The check in was efficient and quick, if not a little on the cooler side with the welcome compared to the vibe of Yogyakarta, but I know the hotel was very busy so to may have been a bad time. Later in he week the team was phenomenal in helping arrange a laundry service and I am great full for that. The room was well appointed with the basics that you need. The room faced the mosque next door so you do get hear the prayer 5 times a day as you do in many place in Yogyakarta. The roof top pool was great and has a wonderful view of the volcano in the distance when it's not hiding in the clouds. The bar and seating area are tranquil and have a wonderful menu of both Indonesian and Western dishes. The bar staff are all attentive and kind and always going above and beyond. They are a true asset to the team. The rooms are probably due for some touch ups now as they are starting to see some wear and tear. There is a nice spa and gym on the roof level. Great to indulge after a long day of walking around Yogyakarta. Definite can beet this location with lots of restaurants and markets all in walking distance.

Stayed for 4 night at the Novotel Suites. (I was in town to visit Prambanan and Borobudur). The hotel staff are pleasant and friendly. (Though the hotel as wee bit signs of aging), it's still comfortable and spacious. I had a suite on the 9th floor that overlooked Jl Perwakilan. The hotel restaurant is on the 8th floor, and it's a pretty wide spread of Indonesian and Western options. There are two malls right next to the hotel that offer stores and eateries. Now, here's the one main point: the Novotel is right across the street from a mosque--you will hear calls to prayer--including at 4 am. Get a room in the back, it might be quieter there. Otherwise, I enjoyed my stay.
