Stayed 1 night, room was upgraded, although done up contemporary style felt closed in and bland, light globe not working, toilet seat broken, flashing green light on and off throughout night from modem, bed was comfy and had what we needed, dinner in restaurant was nice especially Korean wings, staff were friendly in bar although didn’t feel welcomed in reception on arrival, prob wont stay again in this room.

We booked 2BR apartment for 4 nights for a weekend wedding. The accommodation is very much in need of an upgrade. All aspects are 30 years out of date, dark and gloomy, worn, badly patched. We slept and showered there but then escaped to more pleasant surroundings at all other times. Expensive for what it is.

This was a pleasant place for a conference. I liked the dispersed layout, and the attention they have given to attractive grounds. The conference catering was good in relation to refreshments, but the food at dinner was poor in my view. I got steak. and it was inedible. This was the same for at least one other on my table. The staff were friendly but I felt sorry for them. There really weren't enough of them, and it was impossible for them too attend promptly to customer's needs. The conference ran very smooth;y, which was in part due to the hotel team. My "Superior" room was pleasant. I didn't like one wall being all mirror. It had a reverse cycle A/C unit, which was great. I could control the temperature and noise - so often a problem in hotels. It was quiet and the bed was comfy.

I stayed at Mercure Ballarat to attend a work related training. The hotel is conveniently located, short drive to the town centre, yet sits in a horgeous large manicured garden setting. The room was spacious, clean and well maintained with decor of old world charm. The huge pleasant surprise was the on site restaurant Amaro. As I was doing the training all day, I chose to dine at the on site restaurant for convenience. Joiree and Sheila at the restaurant were just delightful. Both remembered my name, and service was perfect - attentive but not intrusive. Food was great as well. The first night I opted for the steak - amazing quality and value. It was so good I returned the second night and enjoyed perfectly grilled fish - crunchy skin, soft and fluffy inside! Menu is not extensive, but covers all the classics and drink list is more than satisfactory. Great service and food. Could not be happier. I will definitely choose Mercure Ballarat again next time I visit the area.

Very disappointed with our stay. We were put in rm 30 walked in and found oil heater on and air con not working. Room outdated chairs had no support you basically sat in and sunk. I went to reception and explained that the oil heater is a hazard for if anyone lost their balance would burn themselves. They moved us to room 54 and we found that there was no hot water. Fridge in room was iced up. I rang them with my mobile in the morning about the hot water they said they knew about it and is getting fixed. The whole point is that we were not informed prior to entry of room that there was an oil heater and that there was no hot water. Communication was non existent. We also were tol,d the restaurant was not open. We dare not even think about getting breakfast. We went down the road to red lion for meals. I was even thinking to cancel my booking and stay at the red lion but due to events there was no accommodation anywhere. Had to stay and was miserable.
