Hotel fine but very disappointing service from the restaurant

Stay was fine until breakfast on the morning we checked out. I specifically booked and paid for breakfast on my room booking of 2 adults and 2 children. Was advised on check in that children are free for breakfast so I would be given two vouchers for each day, but if more are needed they could provide these. First morning went to breakfast in the adjacent restaurant and showed the adult vouchers, queried the children and the waitress confirmed 'yes the children are free'. On leaving I queried with another member of wait staff how early we could dine, they were really helpful but then also mentioned the children aren't generally free and there have been misunderstandings with reception so next time I booked a stay I would need to pay for children's breakfast. The next morning we went down to breakfast and presented the adult vouchers, kids with us and were shown to the buffet. On leaving 20 mins later the same wait staff stopped us and informed us that their manager (who had just stepped out so passed the issue onto their team to resolve) has said we need to pay for children's meals as they are not free. I declined to pay due to the preceding conversations and the fact that I had booked and paid for breakfast with my stay and this was all confirmed by the hotel. They informed me that the hotel had it wrong and they were a separate business. This was something I said they should take up with the hotel and it was not my responsibility to resolve this - it's between the hotel and the restaurant. Unfortunately with the added chime in from a member of the public telling us we were stealing it ended our stay on a very sour note, very rushed (as we had a flight to catch) and two upset children. Extremely disappointing to have this end to our stay but also for the restaurant to take no steps whatsoever to own and resolve this issue with the hotel and instead have a go at us - surely we aren't the first people to have children dine on a room booking. I would possibly stay here again but would not definitely not bother paying for breakfast and dining at Sage and Salt after such appalling service. For what it's worth the wait staff were very polite, but the manager who made this request then disappeared needs to do their job and talk to the hotel and agree the terms of their arrangement. Hotel room was fine however bathroom was very dated and the shower was not in great condition. Beds were comfy though and rooms clean. Check in was good. Whole experience brought down by restaurant scenario.

So I don't write reviews like this lightly I worked in Hotels for 10 years in three different countries. But this stay was Horrible we checked in got given wrong directions and room keys and disturbed someone else in their room. Sorry Room 508 but think you for not being grumpy at us when we disturbed you. The room I booked was a Queen traveling with my partner for my 40th Birthday. We got given a Deluxe double...not ideal but top floor, good view, larger room. So we made do with the smaller bed. Then on Halloween something Foul was a foot we heard bubbling from the bathroom and discovered a Biohazard in our shower....excrement bubbled up and the smell started to fill the room beyond the bathroom. We decided it was time to evacuate before our Breakfasts evacuated and made the issue worse. We reported the issue to Front desk and left to explore Wellington. We didnt return till after 5pm to find that while to excrement had drained away the smell and clearly little poopy bits remained. I was blown away never in all the Hotels I have worked in have I seen anything like it. No Hotel I have ever worked in would let this happen. We would move the guest immediately we would comp Breakfast, Management would personally go and talk to the Guest and make sure they are OK and don't have to write a review like this. Only after getting upset with the front desk we were moved from the Biohazard room to a different room with a King bed (not a upgrade front desk only had King rooms vacant) we packed up and moved ourselves. We Stayed in that room for the remainder of our stay. I expected Management might reach out check in with us but nothing so here we are. Accor Group you should look into this property your spending cash to make the place look better, but you don't have the skilled management staff to look after this investment you could say your flushing money away and this time its not going to bubble up through the shower.

Booked this great central location with my wife to stay if for two nights. Room was tired and in need of updating, old screws in manky walls where art work has been removed, rips in curtains, sacked out mattress on the bed that should have been binned a long time ago. The bathroom wasn’t too bad but could do with updating, the toilet seat was Brocken and didn’t stay up by itself and the shower head would continuously fall. Not the cleanest room either with lots of dust in areas that should be cleaned down regularly.

This was a very average 3 star hotel at the most that lacked the amenities and service of a normal Mercure hotel. There were no robes, slippers hair cover for the shower. No place to put your own shampoo or soap in the shower. No safe. The bed was very hard. The room was in need of a makeover, very tired with stains on the carpet. My allergies immediately flared up most likely due to dust mites. The Accor Plus welcome drink was a joke. I went to the bar who told me to go to reception, who said the drink was the small bottle of red wine in my room. There was no choice of drink, if you don't like red wine or want non alcoholic there is not ability to swap. I was told this was all they offer. There was building work going on and the noise during the day above my room was very loud and at night time something loose was banking against my window. On the last day our key cards would not work. Only one staff member on reception resulted in long wait times for help. The only redeeming feature of the hotel is the location.

Check-in was efficient, and the room on first impressions was good, although I was disappointed to see significant staining to the carpet by the side of the bed, and stains to the lounge chair in the room. It would be expected that such stains would be professionally cleaned or the items repaired or replaced. The bathroom also was somewhat tired. Otherwise the room was comfortable and well appointed - good crisp bed linen, comfortable lighting choices, reasonably spacious. The view out the back is of other buildings and yards, and a multi storey car park. The views from the front rooms over the street and church are much nicer. Everything worked, and our stay overall was pretty good. We got a late checkout to 11am, although were disappointed to have housekeeping knocking on our door shortly after 10am regardless. If reception are giving late checkout, housekeeping should be advised and act accordingly. Bags were left at reception at checkout and kept secure. Both checkout and uplift of the bags later were efficient and friendly. With some easy improvements this could be a much better experience.
