Whilst I had been somewhat hesitant of our impending stay due to previous comments about staff, cleanliness and parking, all were proven to be unwarranted. The receptionist couldn’t have been more helpful, even securing a dinner reservation in a nearby restaurant for 11 of us on a Saturday. Parking, I can see may be an issue and as we had a roof box I was worried about where to park, however we parked easily on the road, even with a town event going go. Yes we drove around twice but this wasn’t an issue. Cars seem to move quite frequently and the other 2 families who travelled with us also parked without issue. Rooms were clean and comfortable and the aircon kept them cool. We also had an upgrade to the privilege suite which was superb. The bar was reasonably stocked and comfortable and whilst there’s no restaurant, there is one next door and plenty in the town, Breakfast had plenty of variety and was exceptional. 10/10 for the whole stay!

A Poor Experience for a 4-Star Hotel

We found this hotel very disappointing and certainly not up to its 4-star rating. Things got off to a bad start when the receptionist declined to offer us interconnecting rooms because those were only available for families. Next we found that one of the two lifts was out of action and remained so for the next couple of days. The receptionist did manage to find us adjacent rooms, but the room size, layout and decor were more reminiscent of an Ibis or Premier Inn, with strange double doors to the bathroom. The daily room service seemed to consist of smoothing the duvet but neglecting to do anything about the undersheet, which was left crumpled. Overall the staff seemed strangely disconnected and unenthusiastic. There was a good range of items for the buffet breakfast, including freshly pressed orange juice. But again activities like clearing tables or keeping supplies topped displayed a sense of staff indifference. This is a fairly small hotel but did not feel intimate. Overall it felt poorly managed with staff behaving almost as if in opposition to the management. We speculated whether, following the opening of the new spa and resort hotel in Valanciennes, Accor had tried a hurried uprating to compete. The hotel does have a central location but is a tram ride or 20 minute walk from the station.

Does the job, clean and comfortable

All in all a good hotel, but nothing stands out - but I must say the size of the rooms are very good. Otherwise it is a little frustrating as it is not easy to park and it does not offer any kind of evening meal possibilities that limits its versatility if using it for business. On my room (123) the external window handle broke off and it looks like it has been broken a while, and the aircon is turned off - a shame as now it gets warm and the sun comes right through the window, making the rooms very warm——- Breakfast is good, typical. All in all, better than the Ibis around the corner, but not wow either.

Great place to stay!

I was in France for a training course and this hotel was recommended by the trainer as a good place to stay and she was not wrong. It's very well situated with lots of restaurants and shops within short walking distance. The room itself was larger than I expected for a European hotel and was very clean and well kept with a comfortable bed and good amenities. I didn't have to interact that much with the staff but check in/check out was smooth. I checked out early in the morning and the person on the front desk offered me a coffee to go which I greatly appreciated. Breakfast buffet had everything I needed to start my day and the tables were cleared very quickly. Overall it was a great stay. On a related note, I didn't get to see much of Valenciennes as I was in class all day and the time of year meant short days but what I saw was stunning. It's a beautiful place that has a more authentic feel to it than the larger cities in France and I'm already planning a trip for my wife and I to really get a chance to explore the whole place.
