We booked this Hotel due to its closeness to Town.We paid £229 a night for a double room Compact which we considered was smaller double.Were we in for a shock it was really a single room reconfigured to double with one side of the bed pushed up to the wall so that you had to either climb over my wife to get out of bed which did not make her happy the person nearest the wall also had no light switch .We complained to the front desk but they had other rooms although i had asked a week before for a River view upgrade. As other reviews pointed out this is a very tired hotel who charge very high price for a sub standard room so beware the compact double.Next stop was Fort William Travelodge £173 per night in a room 99 percent better a large clean modern room.The staff at the Mercure made no effort to resolve the issue.A very bad experience so beware .By the way we only got one chair although classed as a double

A little below par for what we expected for a Mercure and price. Yes, location was great, staff generally friendly, good bar attached and superb breakfast. Room was noisy facing busy street with some pubs etc. Decor was ok but needed some TLC in places, especially front Entrance.

Disappointing 60th Birthday stay

This hotel was booked for a 60th birthday treat for myself and husband. I booked the Mercure as a reputable hotel chain with previously experienced good quality hotel stays. As a result we did not mind paying that little extra for quality compared to other hotels in the area. Unfortunately this hotel falls far from our previous experiences with the brand and has affected our confidence when making future bookings. I messaged the hotel prior to our stay explaining it was for a special birthday, I was told that I could organise a birthday package only to be then told that they did not offer any and I was misinformed. I was told that a complimentary upgrade may be given but it wasn’t. This was not a problem until we saw our room, we booked a double but actually had 2 singles with separate bedding therefore moved apart. This was apparently the only available room, reception said they had given us a special view but I had actually booked and paid for a river view so not special at all. The room itself was dated, had no usb sockets, peeling wallpaper, broken shelf, tea and coffee tray almost at floor level with a plug not close enough for the kettle. The sink in the bathroom was tiny therefore filling the kettle was impossible , it also did not empty properly over spilling when washing. The hotel corridors and stairwells resemble a block of flats rather than a luxury hotel but the reception and bar areas are OK. We stayed over a weekend and this proved to be a big mistake! The rooms have no air conditioning and are very warm, windows can be opened but the noise outside is horrendous until the early hours hence to restful sleep. We were glad to leave for our next stop which was Edinburgh where our hotel was beautiful and actually cost less. I have emailed the hotel and customer services since our return home and they have not even responded except for an automated response indicating it was received. Choose a different hotel to enjoy Inverness.

Sheer Craziness Outside. No Sleep, No Rest

Where to start? Very nice staff here. Seriously, all were as helpful as can be. But the “goodness” ends there. Hotel is tired. Rooms and furniture are tired. Desk in room was sticky, couch worn. Literally served me a G&T in the bar with a dead fly in it (they made another). We were here on a Saturday night, and oh my God, the noise outside was terrible. No sleeping until 2:00am, due to drunken, yelling, rowdy crowds wandering the streets around the hotel. No AC, so had to have windows open on really warm night, but couldn’t leave open due to sheer craziness outside on the streets. If you’re 20-25 and into partying, this might be your place if you go to bed at 2:00am. If you’re a tourist like we were, and looking for a quiet hotel, DO NOT STAY HERE. There are better, quieter, newer, cleaner choices a short walk away.

Absolutely lovely hotel in such a great place,stop over with work on the odd occasion,rooms are very nice and comfortable,bar area really nice and a great selection on the menu,staff are alway nice and helpful and nothing is ever to much trouble.would highly recommend a stay over if visiting the highlands.stayed a few times now,and always find JO on reception and LAUREN E and IIAN in the bar and also RUDNEY at breakfast,such a great staff and always friendly
