We have had an amazing time at the Mercure Wessex. The room was beautiful with a back drop of the cathedral and garden view. The staff members are extremely polite, helpful and professional and a special thank you to Michelle, Emma, Ashlee, Sophie , Arthur and the gentleman behind the bar with long hair. The breakfast manager and the staff in the restaurant were also amazing. To be honest, everyone that attended to us was absolutely fantastic so thank you for making our stay comfortable.

Avoid! Worse hotel I've stayed in totally over priced and definitely not deserving of the stars it has!

Absolutely diabolical has to request 2 room moves first one was filthy tiles damages in bathroom mould and hair round the bath furniture nailed together paper coming off the walls. The second stunk of cigarette smoke. The final room they offered was marginally better however catoets and furniture and fixtures stained, dead insects in bed side light futtings the bed was awful had to sleep on top of a doubled up duvet to stop the springs from sticking into me alcoholics and drug xealers and takers outside my bedroom window. Food is dire. No lighting on some corridors amd there is an awful smell. Walls are so thin you can hear everything no air con and no fan yet the room was boiling. Just a More like a homeless hostel than a hotel! I had to check out early and book another hotel. Totally unacceptable for the price they charge! Avoid like the plague the place needs shutting down! Totally put me off booking with mercure ever again!

We have stayed here many times usually an overnight stop en route elsewhere but love the hotel and staff. Very well situated for the town centre and its many shops the Cathedral river walks and close to the station if required. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. Many rooms with a wonderful cathedral view.

Really nice stay at Wessex Hotel Winchester. Room was very good, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very nice buffet. Staff all friendly and helpful. We hope to return soon. Could not be better located. My friend is visually impaired and had no problem at all staying at this Hotel.

The hotel has a superb location opposite the cathedral and a few yards from the High Street. We booked a Privilege room for a special birthday celebration: it was quiet, the bed was comfortable and it was clean. However, this is a hotel with serious maintenance issues. In this top-price room were two items of damaged shabby furniture which ought to have been replaced. The cistern on the toilet took a long time to refill and the bath took ages to drain away. But worse was to come. As I began my shower, prior to going out to dinner, the hot water cut out on both shower and basin. We had to boil a kettle so that I could wash at the basin. When we returned after dinner the receptionist told us the hot water had been off for two hours - between 6 and 8 pm on a Friday evening. No attempt was made to contact guests to advise that this would happen; the water just cut out. On departure I explained what had happened and I was given a £40 refund. The breakfast provided was good with plenty of choice. The same cannot be said of the evening menu. I ordered a fish finger ciabatta because it came with salad and crisps but when it was served chips had been substituted for these items. Who does that in a restaurant? They were able to supply a salad,when asked, but had run out of crisps.

I’m sorry you were disappointed by your experience staying with us at The Mercure Winchester Wessex Hotel. We had a leak on one of the pipes towards the boiler but we were lucky that we had an engineer out to get his fixed within 2 hours. This was definitely not a planned repair, hence we could not inform guests beforehand.
