Major disappointment for a large hotel group.

Booked a one night stay as an overnight to break up an 8 hour drive. Being part of the ACCOR group of hotels I expected a clean basic hotel. Unfortunately, the IBIS Budget was way below expectations. Dirty, uninviting, rusty, tacky fittings, overcrowded breakfast area. This hotel is in need of a full refurbishment. Probably the worst hotel I have stayed in for more than 30 years & I travel a lot.

What a dump!! I didn't expect much for that price and only needed to sleep up at 4 am and drive again but the worst accommodation I have ever booked. The staff were lazy, drinking cans of soft drinks while talking to guests, they did not give a damn but likely how they were trained. The carpets were disgusting walking up the stairs, I thought I had taken the wrong ones. I cannot believe Ibis put their name to this place.

I thought this was a good place to stay, if you're on a budget. My room was very clean and the staff were lovely. The simple breakfast offered in the morning is convenient, as is the parking and location. Can't understand the bad reviews. This place is fine.

Rude interaction ruined the experience

I was actually super impressed considering the budget price! We booked one night as a stop over on the way from the Gold Coast to Sydney. The rooms were clean and check in was super easy. Yes, the rooms are dated. I stayed here as a kid when it was still under the formula one name and not much has changed since then. I was ready to write a great review and then I checked out. I was waiting behind a man who was talking to the woman manning reception. She asked me if I was checking out to which I said yes, she then said ok and went back to paying attention to the man. I then asked if she wanted me to put the key card into the box below the desk, which I had seen a man do just before me. As she was busy I thought this is what she wanted. She instead snapped at me and asked why do people do that when she’s right there before giving a sarcastic thumbs up. Her sudden outburst has me a bit shocked, I was just asking a question and had my head absolutely bitten off. I can only assume she was mad about something else that had happened and perhaps my genuine question tipped her over the edge. I popped the key on the desk and left so fast. I’d love to go back and stay as a stop over but after that, no thanks. In the words of T Swift, why you gotta be so mean.

This was the worst experience I’ve ever had in a hotel stay. My wife, infant daughter and I arrived (with admittedly humble expectations) to what we thought would be a family-friendly hotel. When we arrived we were told that the cot we had organised earlier, couldn’t be provided because it would be a fire evacuation hazard. Instead the receptionist suggested that our infant sleep on the floor. This was as she hurriedly sprayed insects that were climbing up her desk. Despite this, we settled-in, going to our room through the waft of marijuana smoke in the communal hallways of the “100% smoke free” hotel. Once dropping our bags at our room we thought about dinner. After quick trip to Woolworths, we returned to our room which was entirely devoid of any cutlery except a singular tea spoon. We walked down to the communal kitchen, to find it locked. When I queried this with the receptionist I was told, “Nah we don’t do cutlery”. So my entire family ate dinner with a singular tea-spoon. Also, the window facing a busy main road didn’t close and there are signs advertising $1700 fines to anyone who triggers a fire alarm by showering with the ensuite door open. All together, this place is a disaster and I wouldn’t stay here again even if it were free. 0/5 stars
