Beware of a dodgy website booking experience and a total lack of any reasonable customer service.

We didn't get as far as staying here, why? It's the online booking system which kept switching dates during the booking process. We tried booking for 17th September but the system somehow switched it to the 15th December! I called the hotel who said 'no worries, just cancel it and re-book for the correct date and Accor will see it is cancelled on the same day and will make a refund.' We did so and of course the refund never came and despite complaining to Accor they refused as it was a non changeable booking. So, we then made the new booking which appeared to be for 17th September. We then arrived at the hotel to be told the booking was not on the system, after a search they found it was booked for the 17th December! The website booking system again! Hotel staff said they would not let us stay without paying twice and we could take it up with Accor. Following the horrendous lack of customer service, we found a much better hotel just around the corner and at a much better price.

The most depressing hotel to stay

Staying at the Ibis budget basic is a dreadful experience. The hotel is only fit for a base, sufferable if you just need a bed for the night. Unfortunately, I stay here for business purposes and it’s the most depressing environment you can be. Staff are rude, don’t expect much conversation or even acknowledgement . There’s nowhere to sit/read a book despite the hotel having a large breakfast room which is out of bounds to all guests past breakfast. That leaves a pokey table in the depressing reception area that is filled with silence and gloom. The breakfast is basic and minimal, expect to have stale bread for toast and the fruit is not up to scratch, anppears inedible with their brown limp appearance. Only two small cans of Heineken are allowed at any given time. No English television channels, if you don’t wish to go out and about especially if you need to relax or the weather isn’t good on the day, then you sit looking at four walls with grey curtains. Given the option, the basic gloomy shell doesn’t even deserve a 1 star rating. Avoid, they don’t deserve the business.

Easy stop over for St Malo ferry

Easy place to stop near to the St Malo ferry. Limited parking outside hotel and on street. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice available from the buffet, and started from 5 am to catch an early ferry. Would recommend rather than staying intra muros if not visiting.

Taking ‘Budget’ to the extreme except in price

Generally our experience was good. The staff were friendly and helpful. The building and room was clean. The breakfast was reasonable. I just found that for the price we paid, it could have been better. It felt like the hotel was trying to take the namesake ‘budget’ to the extreme but at nearly 200 euro’s the cost was not budget. The nice touches are missing. No shampoo or body wash, no floor towel, only one pillow each, basic decor, no control on the room ventilation (on -off only), no hot drinks in the room. The parking situation on arrival, as a family with small children after a long drive is stressful! Not being able to park directly outside the hotel as it was too busy. The kids needed the toilet and we needed to unload. Being told we needed to pay more if we wanted a parking space. If I’m in the area again I would look for another hotel that had dedicated parking at these prices.

Expensive microwaved meal

We have stayed in dozens of Ibis hotels and realise they are for the budget traveller. The hotel itself was just the usual, but because we arrived reasonably late on a Sunday evening, with nothing much open around we decided to order our meal for the evening at reception. I ordered soup to start, with chicken curry for main course. My wife ordered the mouzacca. The young lady on reception disappeared and we sat down. We waited an hour and my wife went back to reception to ask what was going on. The girl said she had put the tray on the counter half hour ago. It was in jars and had been microwaved. She microwaved it all again and brought them back. We were so shocked at paying €6 for soup in a jar and €16 each for our main courses in a jar. Unbelievable. Please please do not fall for this one. Burger king is around the corner and would be better value.
