Very central , nice clean well appointed room but a room with a Lake view would have been better- none available on the night ;try to arrange when booking There are two small geothermal pools on site ( as well as a large pool and two spa pools and a well equipped gym) The real disappointment was the Buffett Dinner - looked really appealing at the beginning but if you are a later eater, avoid! Eat Street is just across the road. Service was disappointing as well ; drinks had to be asked for Would definitely stay again but eat elsewhere

Very tired rooms, far better options in Rotorua

I have stayed at the Novotel Lakeside many many times over the years, and seen the room quality deteriorate over time. For my latest stay I was given an old and tired room, stained carpet (looks a lot worse than photo), tired bathroom with rusted cracked fixtures and mould on ceiling (out of reach of daily cleaners). I was told the hotel was relatively quiet so not an issue with them being full and fitting me in. I paid a full price. There was a bad musty smell in the room, typical of old damp carpet. I would give one star by the location is excellent (although many other hotels are within walking distance), the old fittings surprisingly worked, and staff lacked warmth but were efficient. I will be trying a few other options in Rotorua before coming back to the Novotel Lakeside, but this will likely be my last stay.

Needs updating

Staff helpful and breakfast good but quite expensive. Our room badly needed updating. The carpet was worn, the bathroom door needed replacing and the toilet was stained. The pool was small and cool- too small to really swim and too cool to lounge around. One locker had no lock and the others had locks but were unlocked with no keys. But my biggest concern was the tiles from the pool into the changing rooms which were lethal when wet and should have had a ‘grip’ surface.
