Not up to the usual Mercure standard

The downstairs, public areas are great but the bedrooms are really not up to the Mercure standard and certainly not worthy of a 4* hotel. The bar and restaurant area is really beautiful with a lovely, shady terrace and plenty of cosy chairs and sofas to relax in. Breakfast was superb, lots of choice and the restaurant and bar staff were fantastic. However, I can't recommend an overnight stay here. We stayed in a "superior" room but there was nothing superior about it - it was very dark and cramped, with horrible purple walls and white plastic furniture, it seemed more like a budget motel than a 4 * hotel. It is advertised as having air conditioning but this is misleading as it just has an old fashioned ventilation system that didnt work effectively in the hot weather. The room was dusty and the carpet was quite grubby. The car park next door "Le Clemenceau" is a very cramped multi-storey, quite difficult to manoeuvre around even in a small car. The car park is closed in the evenings and at weekends so if you need to access your car at these times you have to swipe your ticket outside to enter and then pay before returning to your car in an enclosed car park with no staff or surveillance and swiping your ticket again so that the main gates will open. and let you out. I found it quite an unnerving experience and definitely would not recommend parking there if you are on your own.

We would also like to emphasize that our 4-star rating is not solely based on décor, but also reflects the quality of our services, the hospitality of our staff, cleanliness, bedding comfort, and the availability of our team—elements that remain at the core of our commitment to our guests. Regarding parking, please note that it does not belong to the hotel. It is the public “Le Clemenceau” car park, one of the few parking options in the city center. Although it is closed in the evenings and on weekends, it remains accessible to those with a badge and benefits from secure facilities. Better then the first time

First time I came the first time to this hotel and place as a recommendation from a friend and when I arrived after the breakfast the staff was not around and cleaning and there was nobody at the bar in the morning and I had to wait so long for a coffee. Two guys was standing in the restaurant and I asked them if there is somebody that can help me for just a coffee but they just told me I must go back and someone will come but only after 15min I managed to get a coffee not good I decide to leave and go to the corner shop down the road that gave me much better welcome and service. I decided to stay at the hotel and give them a second chance and this time much better the bar staff very friendly and welcoming and the food was good. Would recommend the Pha Thai. The rooms: Basic very gray and decor needs some color for the price maybe not the best compared to the quality the reception its so amazing and when you get to the rooms it’s very dull. Toilet super small. The bed very comfortable and rooms is clean. But over all I like the bar staff so 5 star. Thank you for a great stay see you next time.

A disappointing stay in an overpriced hotel

This hotel is overpriced and offers none of the amenities you would expect of a four star establishment. I’d booked it based on my very positive experience at the Mercure in Pau. It was disappointing. No pool and no parking. There is a multi-storey car park on the same street but if you drive anything larger than a Smart Car you’ll be stuck for a space. It was also full. The room- advertised as a superior room- was tiny and offered no soap, shampoo, cainditioner, vanity kit or shower cap that was provided in Pau. A bottle dispensing all purpose soap does not count when the overnight price was 194 euros - no breakfast included. Dinner was overpriced. The bar was over priced and over decorated stuffed with endless trinkets.

Had a nice lunch served in pleasant surroundings by friendly staff in Bistro Yonnais on its shady terrace. Hotel looks clean and modern but as always it is the attitude of the staff that make the experience a memorable one.
