I was born and raised in Besançon. I've been coming to this hotel regularly for 13 years now. The renovations have paid off: the place is really nice. What's less so are the staff's soft skills, starting with the lady at the reception on Sunday 20/07 at around 4 p.m. Not a single smile, zero empathy and she gives the impression that we're bothering her. Same thing 2 days later when she was in charge of the bar (in addition to the reception). Ice queen. It's a shame, because for years the hospitality had been top notch. As for their breakfast at €18.50, it's between 2 and 3 notches below mediocre... there too a considerable drop in quality compared to before. We'll see if I give them another chance...

A quiet island just one remove from the bustle of the historic center.

This is a lovely hotel, in a great location. Wonderful breakfast. My room had a stunning view of the park, the river and the citadel. And, there was easy access to the historic center just across the river. Visit the citadel which overlooks the city and contains museums and a zoological garden.

Room was dirty & dated not even 1 star - Room changed by manager to a partly refurbished lower floor. The not so welcome drink was served in a dirty wine glass, which when asked to by changed took several attempts to find clean glass. Renovation used as excuse for poor standards.

The location is lovely. The parc is quite pleasant and walking to the center of town is easy. The hotel seems not to have been renovated since the 1980's. The woman at the front desk when we arrived was just lovely, very friendly. The room however was disappointing. Bathroom had not been well cleaned, dust on the tp holder, the shower curtain (yes, a thin white polyester shower curtain) was dirty at the edge. The carpet hadn't been changed in years. The room served its purpose for one night. Where the experience went even further downhill was dinner in the restaurant. We had a deluge that evening and my husband recommended we just eat at the hotel. I suspected this was not a good idea but ok. The food was dreadful; they had to re-heat his dish twice, the service was fine, they tried but could not make it work. Fortunately they had a very good bottle of wine that only slightly made up for the meal. So to summarize, best stay somewhere else in Besançon.

The staff is just so friendly and lovely it’s a pleasure to stay there. It’s a basic Mercure, nicely located but have come back a few times now when I travel through the area because the staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful.
