I stayed at Mercure Hannover City for a work trip. Although the hotel is officially rated as 4 stars, in my opinion it clearly does not meet that standard and feels more like a 3-star hotel overall. First, the room amenities were far below what I expect from a 4-star property. There were no amenity kits in the room, no bathrobe, no slippers, and not even a bottle of water. Instead, there was a single water dispenser for the entire hotel, located on the 4th floor. Having to go to another floor just to get water is not acceptable at this category level. The biggest issue, however, was the handling of the credit card deposit. Upon arrival, the receptionist asked if I wanted to leave a credit card on file in case we used the bar or room service. I agreed and provided my card, also covering a colleague who had not yet received her physical card. What was not explained in advance is that they immediately charged 300 EUR in total, calculated as 50 EUR per night per room. I received a push notification from my bank showing the amount as charged, not merely blocked. When I questioned this, the receptionist very casually said it was a deposit that would be released at checkout. This is not acceptable. A charge of this size must be clearly communicated before taking the money. Many guests have limited credit card limits, and unexpectedly losing access to 300 EUR for several days can be a real problem. The next day, I returned to reception and asked them to remove my credit card and refund the amount immediately. The receptionist tried to explain that it was “only retained,” but I insisted, as this had been done without proper consent. Only then was the amount refunded. On the last day, one of my colleagues also had issues at checkout related to the deposit. He was charged for something he did not consume, which caused unnecessary stress just before an important workshop. Overall, the stay was acceptable, but the lack of basic 4-star amenities, poor transparency regarding deposits, and checkout issues significantly lowered the experience. This is not what I expect from a hotel advertising itself as 4 stars.

Wy experience with this hotel has been very bad one. Despite paying such exorbihant prices, quest experience and courtsey was totally missing. The most surprising anc shocking part was that Hotel was under some kind if renovation . This information was not at all put anywhere on their website or informed during booking. This is no ethical and not the kind of transparency you expect from Accor Group of Hotels. beinh All Accor+ Explorer member anc silver member as well was supposedly given upgrade to priviledge room. To my surprise all the windows of the room had plastic covering which blocked the view On opening window it was sealed and there was no ventilation that was possible. I had requested reception to change room , tc which they noted my mistake and sayinc they would come back. Upon checking next day, reception person stated me saying i did not check with them again !! That was again verv surprsining considering nad already put up a request. Anyhow or last day when i raised this issue with my [ravel agent ,the hotel just refused saying that thev tried to contact me , which they never did ! They offered change of room with a meagre refund of 150 euros against my spend of approx of 1500 euros at this property which even failed to put correct and transparent information on the while booking. You planned and booked your trip through a questionable third-party provider. This travel provider is your point of contact for the hotel booking, and we are merely providing you with the room. You did not book directly with us through your ALL Silver membership, that is not correct. If you had, you would have seen on the website that we are undergoing partial renovation:  https://all.accor.com/hotel/1016/index.de.shtml As already mentioned, you relied on a travel provider who apparently did not serve you well.  You could have expected transparency if you had booked directly through our hotel and not through a questionable travel agency. That's the truth, and we're very sorry that things turned out this way for you. Regarding the request to change the room: You received a complimentary upgrade to our Privilege category at Check-In, and we were only able to offer you a change to a standard double room because we were fully booked while trade fair time. Our colleague at reception showed you the standard room without scaffolding, and you did not want to change rooms. Our colleagues contact you again and offered you an alternative, you declined. So it's not true that we stopped caring. You also have to accept that we don't have many options when we are fully booked. You can open the windows in our building. Our hotel information brochure states that you can borrow a key from reception. Currently, you can only tilt the windows on the renovation side. The protective film keeps dirt off the scaffolding but is breathable. Air circulates. We apologize for the inconvenience on site and we understand that you are disappointed in us. It was a chain of unfortunate circumstances that upset you.  However, we would like to clearly distance ourselves from the statement “fraud/ cheating,” which is a serious accusation that you are making. You should take another look at your travel provider for your next trip. Communication with the travel provider was very unprofessional for us. We wish you all the best! Modern Hotel about 15 minutes walk from the Main Railway Station with easy access to Public Transport. Rooms well furnished and clean. Could do with a small Fridge or Mini Bar to store goods in. Lots of eateries in close proximity and a Netto Supermarket across the road. Breakfast good but a little pricey at 24 Euros.
