From the moment we stepped inside the front door to the final send off, there is a charm and exceptional service level that surpasses all expectations. We stayed for two nights at the hotel and although the weather was miserable outside, it did not detract from our stay. We dined at the Carriage House on the first evening and shared the entrecote which was beautifully cooked. The restaurant is cosy and stylish with a lovely atmosphere. On the second evening, we dined at Kathleens which has a different atmosphere but nonetheless charming and lovely to be in a workinh kitchen with a hive of activity. Quality of food was fantastic. Scallops were exceptional and high praise for the beef cheek dish. Additional praise for the mocktail menu which included an espress martini which was original and a mocktail to remember. Perhaps a suggestion to include some 0% wines and Nozeco for the non drinking residents. Overall, a beautiful stay to start the festive season. Will definitely be back

Excellent experience, nothing less that excellence. Great service. Good choices of restaurants from fine dining to casual dining. Rooms were spotless, comfortable and spacious. Beautiful relaxing walking trails around. Good spa facilities.

Wonderful food and exceptional service in Kathleen’s Kitchen. Brilliant cocktails too from the bar. Really lovely staff and the whole experience made us feel really well looked after. Reasonable cost too considering the quality of the food and drink.

Unscrupulous Management Practices

My wife and I had a very enjoyable stay at Carton House over a weekend. All the food we had was particularly great and memorable. We took advantage of the express checkout which made our departure very efficient. However upon reviewing the final invoice sent to my email I sent a query to the hotel regarding an additional charge of €92.50 for having breakfast delivered to our room. I had already paid €25 per head for breakfast included as part of the room package. Therefore breakfast effectively cost me more than €142 in total. I have stayed for a week at The Langham Hotel in London where breakfast is on another level altogether and it didn’t cost anywhere near that. Thinking the hotel had made a mistake I raised the query on the breakfast charge the same evening of the day we checked out. Despite charging my credit card immediately, the hotel took 4 days to investigate and respond with zero communication in between. In the end they offered a part refund despite unjustly alleging it was my fault and that I selected breakfast for 3 adults despite the room occupancy being max 2 people and having checked in as a couple. My personal opinion is the express checkout whilst convenient is an opportunity for the hotel to sneak through unscrupulous charges. My advice is to be weary.

Dear lukem531 I was delighted to read that you had a very enjoyable experience at Carton House and that you felt the food quality was great and memorable. I am sorry that you feel we employ Unscrupulous Management Practices as this is most definitely not the case. The hotels policy on room service breakfast is that we have a fixed charge per person and a tray charge which is clearly marked on the room service breakfast card and on the room service menu on our Tv system. Which means that our guests are aware of the charges involved prior to ordering. If you did not notice this information I am very sorry. Unfortunately when my colleague on In Room Dining placed your order they believed that the order was for three guests as there were 3 main cooked courses, 2 starters, 4 hot drinks , 3 Juices ordered. This was a human error but not done with any forethought or malice and when it was brought to our attention a refund was done immediately for the extra charge. I'm sorry that you would feel that the hotel would use express check out to "sneak through" unscrupulous charges as this is just not the case! We clearly mark all menus with the conditions and charges that apply so they are fully aware of the charges involved and although regrettably an error was made in this case it was certainly not intentional and we sincerely apologize for any disquiet this may have caused you. Hotel is okay. I've stayed at over 15 Fairmont hotels and this is definitely the worst. It doesn't have the same top notch Fairmont service or amenities. I am also a platinum member with accor and have only had an amenity in my room 1/4 times I've stayed there. Twice I called the front desk to ask about it and it never came. It's also disappointing not all room categories have turn down service Overall the hotel is fine, but if you're a regular Fairmont stayer don't expect the typical services/standard
