After the beach side luxury of Angsana Teluk Bahang we wanted to be closer to town and this was the only hotel under the Accor umbrella near Georgetown . It has a lovely position over looking Penang beach and 15 minutes in a grab from the centre of Georgetown. Check-in was a wee bit slow as only one member of staff on the desk, and the Accor Privilege Desk unmanned. The room has dated décor and tired bathrooms & furnishings but it was clean and as we were only planning on sleeping there it offered good value for the price we paid. We had booked a sea view and it was delight to wake up to the vista. As a Gold Member with Accor we made use of our free drink vouchers, The bar was adequate if not exactly happening. We didn’t eat in the hotel which was very busy with various groups and celebrations, despite outside noise was fairly quiet. We most likely wouldn’t stay here again as would stick closer to the city centre but for value and views we would recommend The Mercure Penang Beach.

Not a 4 star hotel. Seemed to cater for the team building guests and not the international tourists. When we arrived into our room for a 2 week stay, our safe didn’t work, the hot water in the hand basin needed to be unblocked and my Husband cleaned the shower water drain , as it was blocked. The safe again didn’t work towards the end of the second week. Despite being out all day, our rooms were not cleaned ( this term is used loosely) until late afternoon. No vacuuming or dusting was carried out and the bathroom wasn’t cleaned very well. As for the lack of linen, this was a disgrace. May I suggest a cleaning and maintenance list to tick off so that the Staff are aware of their duties. It is such a shame for this hotel, as the location is amazing and we had the best ocean view. The foyer and restaurant look great. Staff lovely. Beach was amazing.

The hotel location is strategically located next to seaside with great seaview and close proximity to upmarket seadside commercials of Straits Quay. Room ambience and upkeep is satisfactory but customer service can be further improved especially in the following areas a) Check-in experience - long waiting time (only 1 staff is there) b) Coffee house a.k.a Ombak - (i) we had our supper there (wrong drink served despite taking and reconfirming orders several times, no cutlery (until prompted) (ii) breakfast - we added breakfast option during check-in but was told that our accomodation exclude breakfast until I have to show the receipt Probably won’t return unless service level improve

Review of Mercure Beach Penang … just spent a week at this hotel. The good- The pool, very refreshing on the warm days. The view, lovely sunsets and outlook across the sea. Quiet location that was accessible cheaply with grab ride service. Comfortable bed. Not too noisy even with room alongside lifts. Phone wasn't working- replaced after a call to reception. The bad (no particular order)- lack of lounges/ towels poolside. No bar service poolside, actually no bar at all. I’m not a drinker so not stressed about that. No barista style coffee- self service machine only with regular milk. Lack of food with buffet at breakfast- even after arriving early food / bain maries were not refilled. Paper cups that leaked through for juice. First few days there were glasses so not sure what happened after that. Minimal seating at breakfast, shared tables, I’m friendly so don’t care but others might.. Definitely not catering for tourists. Lots of team building events that were catered and taking up seats when tourists coming for breakfast. Food at dinner limited, menu items not available. Ordered satay, didn’t get rice cake. When asked was told they’d run out- but had not been told this prior to food arriving and had to question lack of food on plate.. I asked for steam rice instead- but was not offered this. Food was mediocre. Filtered water via bathroom sink, only a trickle - maybe filter blocked? Very very low pressure for hot water. The ugly- mould in bathroom despite asking it to be cleaned. Bath towels only- no floor mat / face washer / hand towel. Needed a bath mat due to leaking basin which added to mould. Even asking for extra towels via the front desk on several occasions etc was only given a scrappy floor mat. I used the pool towel instead. Rooms not cleaned until late, on one day it still had not been cleaned at 8pm (we’d been out during the day). Finally cleaned late after asking while we went and waited downstairs. Very tired hotel that seems to be struggling post COVID. Some of the staff were friendly but not all. This is not a hotel I would return to.

Booked 20 nights at this hotel unfortunately. The room is adequate, the bathroom is very small. The main issue is the housekeeping staff do not clean the rooms, we are continually contacting the front desk to have our room cleaned or to obtain bath towels which were not left. There is no explanation or apologies provided, definitely not a 4 star hotel.
