The staff were very helpful even though they did not speak English. The use of translation apps served their purpose. The shower had plenty of hot water and the A/C was cold. The bed was very comfortable and the black-out curtains were a nice surprise. The WiFi was good sometimes and not so good during peak use times. There was one TV news channel in English (Channel 72). The buffet breakfast consisted of Chinese items and fresh fruit. A small electric pan was available for you to cook eggs. The peach juice was delicious.
There is a supermarket across the street. You can walk to this hotel from Zhangye Xi Railway station in about 15 minutes. When you leave the station follow the sidewalk to the right and head toward the taxis. Pass the very large yaks and continue walking until you reach the 3rd main street (Xinglin). Turn right and the hotel is on the left. You can also take Bus 22 from the railway station and it has a stop in front of the Ibis hotel. You can walk to the wooden pagoda in the city center in about 20 minutes.
The booking websites say that this hotel offers non-smoking roooms but that is not true. When we asked for a non-smoking room, we were told that one was not available, but the front desk person's app said that "it can be non-smoking for you if you want it to be." After the second day, the room started to smell like smoke. The clear bathroom door provided absolutely no privacy when using the toilet. And just so you know, we could hear the upstairs guest hanging clothes on the hanging rack and the slamming of doors by other guests went on well past midnight. Better bring earplugs.
Overall it was a good stay, but if you need a non-smoking room like us, you might look elsewhere.
